Regularities of change of spatial position of a drilling shell in a borehole

Article preview

Deep drilling of glaciers and ice sheets is currently one of the main and most informative ways to study the current state and evolution of the glaciation of our planet. As it is known, there are no absolutely vertical boreholes, all boreholes have deviations. In case of drilling accidents causing jamming of the drill bit in the borehole, the main task is to deviate, bypass the drill bit to continue further drilling. In order to perform these operations, it is necessary to know the regularities of the drill bit behavior in the borehole. The article describes the regularity of change of spatial position of the drill bit.

Environmental assessment of Kostomuksha district of Karelia Republic on the basis of the results of ecological-geochemical research

Article preview

In 1999-2002, Karelsky Okatysh conducted environmental monitoring. The results of chemical sampling of soils, surface water and snow cover were used by the author for statistical analysis. Associations of chemical elements were identified using factor analysis. The average element contents in different soil horizons were compared. A map of S and Pb content in the soil organic layer was drawn up. The migration of chemical compounds in the Kento-Kenti aquatic system was studied. Data from snow gauge surveys for heavy metal content were processed using factor analysis. Factor score maps were constructed, which allowed the identification of areas with the highest deposition of (Cd, Mn, Zn); Fe; (Ni, Fe, Cu). The role of geochemical monitoring as a means of environmental control was shown.

A geochemical and mineral associations of gold ore occurrences of Yanisyarvinsky area (South Karelia)

Article preview

Features of element and mineral composition of the Alattu and Yanis gold occurrences in the Yanisyarvi district of South Karelia are considered. It was established that ore minerals in the Alattu deposit were formed during the pre-mining (arsenopyrite-quartz), early (gold-arsenopyrite), middle (freibergite-sphalerite-galenite), late (pyrrotite-gudmundite-native antimony), and hypergenic stages. The main (Au-As) and (Zn-Pb-Ag-Cu-Bi) elemental associations related to mineral associations of the early and middle ore stages were identified. The Au-Bi-Ag-Sn-Pb-W element association established in the Yanis deposit suggests a gold-red-metal ore type.

Development of bitumen fields of the Republic of Tatarstan by drilling special wells

Article preview

Lately there has been a growing interest in the development of bitumen fields in the world. The Republic of Tatarstan has significant reserves of high-viscosity oils and natural bitumen, which in the future may become an alternative to conventional oil. Undoubtedly, one of the most promising strategic directions of development of fields with hard-to-recover reserves is their development by horizontal wells. For fields and deposits of elongated shape, when the length of the deposit exceeds its width several times, the most expedient is drilling of a heat-injection well with a sinusoidal horizontal section relative to the general direction of the deposit.

Prospects of development of horizontal technologies at development of oil and gas fields

Article preview

To increase the efficiency of drilling horizontal wells, the formation of a rotary-regressive flow of flushing fluid is justified. In this flow it is possible to increase in hundreds times active forces causing cuttings removal. The use of the swirling flow when drilling a horizontal borehole allows to reduce the construction time and cost of the well.

Justification of resource-saving technological schemes of mining of powerful steep formations

Article preview

The factors that have the greatest influence on the probability of endogenous fires during the mining of thick steep formations of the Prokopyevsk-Kiselevskoye field in Kuzbass have been determined. The study of stress-strain state of sublevel coal pillars with the use of continuum mechanics approaches was carried out. It is concluded that the sublevel coal pillar left nowadays at the mines of OOO MC Prokopyevskugol is destroyed and does not fulfill isolating functions, being in the end the main or indirect source of fire hazard. The method of mining of thick steep seams prone to spontaneous combustion is proposed, which excludes sublevel coal seals and provides reliable isolation of the mined area.

Stripping and preparation of new horizons at formation of a working zone of a quarry

Article preview

When forming the lower part of the working zone of the open pit - opening and preparation of new horizons - insufficient attention is paid to the shape of the excavated space of the lower horizon, which often cannot provide the most rational parameters of the blasted block, and therefore the maximum length of the mining front, which should compensate for the deficit arising from the mining front on the upper horizons. The present work provides the formation of the shape and parameters of the preparatory excavation, its position relative to the ore deposit and ensuring the maximum length of the mining front, taking into account the rational use of drilling and blasting.

Monitoring of soil and vegetation cover in the zone of impact of OAO Boksitogorsky Alumina

Article preview

In the course of practical research in the zone of influence of the metallurgical industry enterprise "Boksitogorsk alumina" in Boksitogorsk the sizes of the real zone of negative influence of the enterprise were obtained. They practically on a row exceed those obtained by theoretical calculations according to the OND-86 methodology, universally applied for calculation of atmospheric air pollution in the Russian Federation. Many residential, agricultural and forestry lands are located in the zone of negative impact of the enterprise. This substantiates the necessity to conduct engineering and environmental studies in the impact zones of large enterprises of the mineral and raw materials complex.

Peculiarities of geological structure of Vasilievsky Island and their connection with the condition of the housing stock

Article preview

The relevance of the topic is determined by two factors. Firstly, intensive development of construction in large industrial and cultural centers of Russia. Here a number of engineering aspects, in particular, the state of the soil, are often sacrificed to considerations of economic feasibility. Secondly, the study of geologic environment parameters at the initial stage of construction activities. In this case, the geological environment may be non-stationary due to, for example, seasonal processes of thawing and freezing of the upper part of the section, creep of the decompacted Quaternary complex, small movements along the fault plane.

Cleaning of near-surface sediments from oil pollution in conditions of swamp landscapes of Western Siberia

Article preview

One of the major environmental problems in Russia is the pollution of the natural environment by oil and oil products. The work is devoted to oil spill cleanup in the swampy landscapes of Western Siberia. The problem of oil collection is proposed to be solved by the available equipment and personnel, using forced methods, and to intensify oil collection in swampy areas to build excavations in natural depressions and drainage ditches to them along the flow lines, and then apply water washing with simultaneous localization of the territory. The schemes developed and proposed by the author to improve the efficiency of oil collection from waterlogged areas are used in practice and included in the guiding document of Surgutneftegaz.

Analysis of granulometric composition of blasted rock mass

Article preview

A description of carrying out automatic analysis of rock mass particle size distribution from a photograph is presented. Conducting blast analysis is a difficult problem. The most accurate method is sieve analysis, which is costly and time-consuming. Therefore, the area of its application is very limited. The most common planimetric (more often - photoplanimetric) method of assessing the granulometric composition. Photoplanimetric analysis can be automated using a personal computer (PC). The image on the PC is entered from a digital camera, it is possible to use a scanned photo, provided that it is made from a professional camera. The program pre-processes the image by selecting the contours of objects. After manual correction, each object is calculated and statistically analyzed.

Development of small watered placers by mini-drakes

Article preview

To date, Russia is one of the few countries that has huge reserves of gold - over 25 thousand tons. Obviously, the creation of a system of effective exploitation of its deposits and rational use of the extracted metal largely predetermines the possibility of economic recovery in general and its development in the future, this is due to the special importance of gold among other natural formations. This paper considers the prospects of involvement in the exploitation of small watered placer gold deposits and summarizes the practical experience in the use of excavation and processing block-modular equipment in the exploitation of such deposits. At the same time, recommendations for the use of certain complexes of operating equipment in specific conditions are proposed and substantiated. Priority sources of power supply of equipment in the development of small watered placers are determined, the methodology of preliminary determination of the project profitability is presented.

Environmental and geochemical features of slag dumps transformation in the acidification zone

Article preview

The conducted studies prove the necessity to increase the hazard class of waste from the pyrometallurgical processing of Severonickel enterprise due to erosion and hypergenic processes, which cause water pollution with toxic metals and sharp decrease in pH level. Formation of acidic waters leads to transformation of the composition of cover sediments, surface and ground waters, as well as to increase of migration ability of polluting elements. Criterion dependences of transformation of mineral and chemical composition of mining and metallurgical wastes are established. The ways to reduce the technogenic load on the soil and vegetation cover and natural waters in the acidification zones are proposed: construction of a geochemical barrier for old, already stockpiled waste and change of the enterprise technology at the stage of slag formation and transportation.

The stress-strain state of the rock massif (STS) "perturbed" by the 1st layer mining was investigated. The nature and degree of influence of the 2nd layer overmining were established. The rational location of the 2nd layer preparatory mine workings was chosen for the sloping mining of layer III of the Tom-Usinsky region of Kuzbass. The economic effect from the implementation of the developed recommendations is calculated, which is obtained by reducing the cost of maintaining the operational condition of the area excavations.

Rational ways of protection of recultivated soils

Article preview

An important problem of anthropogenic massifs is the slowdown in the natural formation of vegetation cover on dumps and tailings dumps of mining enterprises, which is explained by the impoverishment of rocks with nutrients. In this regard, of particular importance are the studies aimed at developing economically feasible ways to reduce dust emissions into the atmosphere and restore the biological productivity of disturbed areas, excluding the performance of labor-intensive operations to apply a traditional soil layer during reclamation. Based on the study of properties of various biologically active substances, the use of a new environmentally friendly bioactive foam is proposed, which fulfills the main tasks of biological reclamation: return of disturbed lands to the agricultural fund and fixation of dusty surfaces (soils, dumps, tailings).

Justification of resource-saving technological schemes of potash strata mining in areas with limited dimensions

Article preview

The paper analyzes the methods of mining operations at coal mines and potash mines of Starobinsky deposit. Special attention is paid to the problem of rational extraction of potash ore without leaving large width pillars at the mines of RUE PA Belaruskali, especially relevant at the Krasnoslobodsk mine under construction. The hypothesis of the combined method of underground mining of the 4th sylvinite layer of the Third potash horizon, which consists in mining of the pillar with limited dimensions with turning of the mechanized complex by 180° on the border of the excavation area, is put forward. The known technological schemes with face turning were analyzed and their disadvantages were determined. A new technological scheme of excavation of the 4th layer with extinguishing of the previously left pillar (for protection of preparatory workings after turning) is proposed. The necessary parameters for its application (width of the zone of operational cracks propagation to the edge part of the massif) are calculated, the approximate economic effect from the introduction of the new technological scheme is given.

Laws of distribution of concentration of solid particles during the flow of concentrated hydro-mixtures through pipelines

Article preview

The reserves of non-ferrous metal ores have been depleted in recent years, but metal production is not decreasing, but increasing from year to year. Therefore, the mining industry has to extract and process very large volumes of ores. Complex ores usually contain less than 1% of usable metal. To extract the metal, it is necessary to crush the ore into small particles. In connection with this technology, the amount of fine tailings from beneficiation increases dramatically, as well as the load on tailings hydrotransport. To improve the efficiency of hydraulic conveying, it is necessary to increase the concentration of fine solids in the pulp. The ability of solids to form spatial structures in the slurry is of paramount importance because such hydraulic mixtures can be considered sedimentation resistant. This paper studies the sedimentation stability of tailings from copper ore processing plants.

Increase of continuity of power supply systems at territorially dispersed loads

Article preview

The article deals with the methodology of improving the reliability of power supply systems in conditions of geographically dispersed loads. The relevance of this issue is explained by the significant damage to mining enterprises due to power supply failures. The proposed methodology is based on the determination of the optimal number of electrical substations at mining enterprises and the connection of collector bus bars of different substations with the help of automatic operation of the reserve. The optimum number of electrical substations is determined using the method of potential functions. This method allows dividing consumers into groups and determining the center of electrical load in each group. Connection of different collector buses of substations increases the reliability of the power supply system of the enterprise as a whole. Calculation of reliability parameters for two variants of the power supply system, as well as their comparative analysis is carried out.

Information-analytical system of control and formation of gas-transport flows of main gas pipelines

Article preview

In dispatching activity, along with the basic function of process control, a significant place is occupied by decision-making in real-time control of gas flows in the main gas pipeline. At present, decision-making depends on the qualification of dispatch personnel, as there are no software support tools yet. However, there are ways of solving such problems with the involvement of elements of the theory of fuzzy sets (TFS) in combination with the theory of planning of experiment (TPE). The task of the dispatcher is to process the received information and form transportation flows taking into account seasonal, daily changes and economic efficiency of the system. To solve this task, it is necessary to analyze the state of flows at all sections throughout the pipeline and to carry out their redistribution. The purpose of this article is to identify the factors that form the basis of the information control system (ICS) in the formation of gas transportation flows of main gas pipelines (MG).

Study of composition and choice of method of pelletization of powdered iron ore

Article preview

The mined ore cannot be used in the metallurgical process without preliminary preparation. The main preparatory operation is ore size preparation. Small ore fractions (-5+0 mm) are carried out of the furnace during smelting and smelting becomes inefficient. Therefore, it is necessary to exclude fine ore grades and direct them to roasting. In this paper, loose iron ores were investigated and the feasibility of roasting this product was determined. The initial moisture content of the dough, the content of different grades of coarseness and elemental composition were studied by spectral and chemical method.

Criterion and indicators of estimation of economic, social and ecological stability of system

Article preview

The article deals with the development of an integrated model of the economic system development process, reflecting all aspects of its functioning. It is proposed to assess the sustainable development of the system by the integral coefficient of sustainable development, which is calculated on the basis of the coefficients of economic, social and environmental sustainability. The development variant, at which the maximum value of the integral coefficient of sustainability is achieved, is the most stable (when the value of the coefficients of economic, social and environmental sustainability is greater than one). Thus, the criterion of system stability can be formulated as maximization of the integral stability coefficient.

Oil economy of Russia: current state and prospects for the future

Article preview

The huge importance of the oil industry for Russia is undeniable. But today the industry is not functioning at full capacity. After a dramatic decline in oil production in the first 5 years of perestroika (since the mid-1990s), it has decreased by 300mn tons per year. The reason for the decline in production is the lack of investment in production and exploration projects. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the tax and legal aspects that could be used to make Russian oil projects more attractive for investment by foreign companies. But today it is still impossible to foresee whether a legal basis for an oil financial system can be created in Russia under the current conditions.

Logocentrism of Russian mentality: to the question of word meaning in Russian culture

Article preview

The thesis about the centrality and authority of the concept "word" in the mental space of Russian culture is put forward. In the Russian consciousness the word is understood not only as a semiotic symbol, but as an independent entity, valuable in itself and possessing creative "objectifying" potential. This attitude to the word is expressed not only in theory, i.e., in the observations of philosophers, theologians, and linguists, not only in the poetic practice of word artists, but also in everyday consciousness, in everyday conscious or unconscious reflexion.

Ethics of catastrophes

Article preview

The study of special moral experiences of people arising as a result of emergencies associated with accidents and disasters is an urgent and very complex problem of ethics. Virtually everyone who has experienced the force of the impact of the elements, man-made accidents or has been in close contact with the victims of disasters, comprehends the tragedy in the categories of good and evil, the proper and the existent, and the behavior of people in extreme situations is evaluated as heroic, courageous, cowardly or cowardly. In the most general form, all phenomena of moral consciousness, behavior and activity of people during and after the catastrophe can be covered by such a concept as "the morality of the catastrophe".

Electric methods for identification of diamonds and jewelry stones

Article preview

A comprehensive analysis of modern methods used for diamond identification has been carried out. It is shown that high thermal conductivity cannot unambiguously testify to the authenticity of a diamond, since synthetic imitations of silicon carbide have recently appeared. It is shown that electrical methods of gemstone diagnostics are promising but not yet sufficiently developed. A set of innovative electrocalcium methods for diamond identification is proposed. Techniques for measuring high resistivity, dielectric permittivity and surface potentials, which can be used in the procedure of diamond identification, are developed. An operational model has been tested in the study of new and traditional dielectric materials. The possibility of detecting differences in electrical and physical properties of externally identical materials using this method is shown.

Role of physical culture in maintenance and restoration of working capacity of mining engineers

Article preview

The data show the undoubted influence of climatic factor on such important indirect indicators of organism condition as labor productivity and injury frequency. Unfavorable impact of production factors increases the possibility of development of colds, pneumoconiosis, dust bronchitis and vibration disease among miners [3]. Thus, the effect of summation of negative environmental factors (geographical, social, etc.) and technogenic factors (working conditions) leads to negative consequences, especially manifested in the conditions of development and exploration of subsoil resources of the North. Physical culture, in this case, is one of the most important means of restoring health and ensuring normal working capacity and life activity of mining engineers.

Experience of application of small angle X-ray scattering for detection of nano-homogeneities in irizing labrador crystals

Article preview

Irizing and non-irizing labrador have been studied by small-angle X-ray scattering for a wavelength of 1.51angstrom (Cu-alpha). Plates of 0.1-0.2 mm thickness cut perpendicular to the c crystallographic axis were investigated. For the experiment, an X-ray setup with a U-shaped Kratky collimator was used. Two types of scattering were detected for the first time: anisotropic and isotropic. Anisotropic scattering is characteristic only for irizing labradors. It is observed at angles of 1-5 mrad and decreases with increasing scattering angle. The isotropic scattering has a maximum at an angle of 8 mrad, the position of which does not depend on the irization of the sample. Anisotropic scattering is presumably associated with defects in the structure of irizing crystals, characteristic sizes of which are 500-1500 angstroms. Isotropic scattering is apparently determined by structural elements with linear dimensions of 150-180 Å.

Determination of heat losses during steam injection into oil reservoir

Article preview

One of the methods of oil production intensification is water vapor injection into oil reservoirs. The efficiency of this process generally depends on the amount of useful heat utilized in the oil reservoir. One of the most important parameters of thermocouple treatment of the reservoir is the amount of heat di rectly supplied to the oil reservoir. For its determination it is necessary to know the heat energy losses in surface communications and oil wells, as well as losses associated with heat exchange processes in the oil reservoir and surrounding rocks. High heterogeneity of oil reservoirs complicates the use of continuous steam injection into oil reservoirs. The time required to warm up the reservoir to a given temperature is a determining factor for theoretical analysis of heat losses due to the unsteady heat exchange process in such conditions. The paper presents the basic principles of the heat loss estimation method, as well as the results obtained in determining the relationship between the time required to warm up the oil reservoir to a given temperature and the temperature of steam.
