Preliminary assessment of economic potential of the North-West region of Russia from the point of view of Kyoto Protocol mechanisms

The article presents a multivariate model for preliminary analysis of opportunities associated with the use of economic mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol. The article considers economic mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol, levels of their implementation, composition of greenhouse gas emissions in the main sectors of the Russian economy, main options for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Russia. A preliminary assessment of the total capacity of underground reservoirs potentially suitable for storing greenhouse gases at oil and gas fields located in the northwestern region of Russia is given.

Use of underground storage facilities for carbon dioxide conservation in the Russian Federation

The main types of underground facilities suitable for use as carbon dioxide storage facilities are specified, the most significant advantages associated with the implementation of the project under consideration are identified. Possible favorable consequences of the project implementation are considered, taking into account the prospects of Russia's compliance with international environmental obligations.
