Application of complex optical method in geological and field purposes on the example of Vinokurovskaya deposit

Article preview

The article analyzes the results of comprehensive studies of physical, chemical and optical properties of oil of Vinokurovskaya deposit, located on the northern side of the South Tatar dome-shaped fold. Terrigenous sediments of the Bobrikovsky horizon of the Vinokurovskaya deposit were selected as the object of study. The studies included taking and dewatering of oil samples, measuring their density, kinematic viscosity, surface tension and optical properties. Standard features, correlation dependences of light absorption coefficient on physical properties, complex physical, chemical and optical characteristics of produced oil were established. Regularities of light absorption coefficient changes in oil and water-oil zones have been studied. A set of quantitative and qualitative optical characteristics was developed and their factor analysis was carried out. The influence of capacitance-fluid-absorbing properties of the reservoir, such as sphericity, permeability, water permeability and effective thickness of the reservoir, on the physical and chemical properties of the produced oil, including the optical properties of complex oil, has been studied.

Modeling of main non-isothermal pipeline in complicated operating conditions

Article preview

The article presents an algorithm for calculating operating modes (both steady-state and non-steady-state) of non-isothermal oil pipelines in complex conditions. The proposed algorithm is used for pipelines with several pumping stations and for individual pipeline sections (both above-ground and underground). Calculations can be carried out in a given temperature range, which increases their accuracy. In addition, the algorithm takes into account changes in the operating mode, the influence of additional pumps on the main pipeline and heat points located along the pipeline. It also allows to determine the internal heat transfer coefficient. This algorithm can be applied to fluids of any rheological model. It has been tested on real main and industrial pipelines. It is supplied together with a software package.

Influence of engineering-geological conditions on formation of level of reaction and spectral composition of ground vibrations at strong earthquakes

Article preview

As a result of detailed seismic zoning on the basis of analysis of various databases with the help of the American program Seisrick-3 a set of probability maps for the territory of Vladikavkaz was made. The map with a probability of 2% comes closest to the accepted level of seismic hazard for average ground conditions. The southern part of the city is located in the zone with intensity of 8 points, and the northern part -7 points. The obtained data allow us to construct maps of seismic microzonation of the city territory. In the 8-point part of the city it is possible to obtain zones with 7 and 9-point intensity, and in the 7-point zone - zones with 6 and 8-point intensity. These maps are a direct basis for earthquake-resistant construction, and their use will allow to assess the seismic risk of the building and to form the directions of corresponding preventive measures.

Gold in jewelry art of masters of pre-Columbian America

Article preview

The features of gold mining, its primary processing and use in jewelry art on the territory of South and Central America in pre-Columbian times are considered. The development of Indian jewelry became possible after the discovery of rich gold-bearing veins in the Central and Western Cordilleras and placers in the valleys of the Andes. Development of deposits was carried out by means of shaft-wells not more than 1m in diameter. Gold refining was one of the most advanced metallurgical operations used by pre-Columbian jewelers. Tum-baga, an alloy of gold and copper in the ratio of 3:7, was most often used in articles. The technique of gilding gave the articles made of tumbaga or low-grade gold the appearance of objects made of pure gold. Forging, joining parts with the help of gold nails and casting hollow pieces, known as the lost wax technique, were very common in metalworking techniques, which made it possible to produce unique jewelry pieces.

Prevention of formation and negative influence of persistent water-in-oil emulsions by sucker rod well pumping units

Article preview

Water encroachment of well products at late stages of oil field development leads to formation of oil-in-water emulsion. At water cut of 30-80% three-component emulsions are formed, which lead to rod sticking and, eventually, to rod string breakage. Water-in-oil emulsions differ from crude oil in both viscosity and initial shear stress. The increase in viscosity of water-in-oil emulsions when the rods are mechanically actuated occurs approximately in the first third of the lift string, starting at the pump. At further lifting the viscosity of the mixture increases not so intensively, and its growth is due to the decrease in temperature and pressure during the ascent to the wellhead. In the work measures are proposed to reduce the hydrodynamic resistance to rod movement at load reduction.

Improvement of technology of fastening of near-well zone with the purpose of liquidation of overflows in gas-condensate wells

Article preview

The problem of maintaining tightness of tubing annulus in gas and gas condensate reservoirs is especially urgent. Leakiness is caused by the fact that formation fluid in such reservoirs often contains aggressive components - hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, as well as poor insulation of formations containing these agents. This leads to various complications during well operation.

Application of organic geochemistry methods to control the movement of WOCs and GOCs

Article preview

Methods of organic geochemistry of naphthides and organic substances of rocks are widely used not only in the search for oil and gas. In the last decade, they have become more and more actively used in the practice of field development. In international practice this direction is known as "reservoir geochemistry" or oil and gas geochemistry and includes a wide range of studies in the field of bitumen science of rocks and geochemistry of hydrocarbon systems. In particular, the ratio of naphthides and bitumens in the development of deposits determines the sources of deposit formation, the paths and distances of primary and secondary migration of hydrocarbons, the specifics of changes in their structure and properties over time at the inflows of accumulations and in a production well.

Features of geochemistry of Irina-2 hydrothermal ecosystem

Article preview

The paper studies geochemical and biological parameters of the site of the Logachev hydrothermal field. The main regularities of living matter distribution, its interaction with mineral sulfides and the role of microorganisms in the formation and decay of sulfide structures are considered. A correlation matrix of biological and geo-chemical parameters and a graph of distribution of biota and element concentrations as a function of distance to the "black smoker" were constructed using data from the Alvin deep-water submersible. Eco-geochemical zonality around the Irina-2 hydrothermal unloading center was revealed. Three zones were identified: high-temperature and low-temperature unloading, as well as the marginal zone of precipitated hydrothermal material from the plume.

Determination of relative position of wells

Article preview

There are many situations when it is necessary to know the mutual location in space of two or more wells: in oil-bearing areas with high well density, when drilling directional or horizontal wells next to vertical wells, when directing a well near an abandoned area that may be damaged, when reentering and multilateral wells, when drilling rescue wells, etc. This is primarily necessary during the design phase and the well creation phase. This problem involves some procedures, direct or indirect, which are used to determine the distance between two wells at any of their points, as well as the position of one well relative to the other. This paper presents a general method for determining the spatial direction of a well using deviation measurements and a way to graphically represent this direction in two or three dimensions. The aim of the work is to realize the algorithm used to determine the minimum distance between two wells, which can be easily used if a computer is available.

Technical silicification of wood materials

Article preview

Technical silicification of wood was performed to improve the properties (e.g. wear resistance, water absorption, hardness) of the material. Experimental studies were carried out using two types of wood (oak and spruce) and three different sources of silica including sodium metasilicate (Na 2 SiO 3 ), a colloidal suspension of silica (CSS), and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). Experiments were done in the temperature range between 40 °С and 80 °C under normal pressure in glass beakers and at higher temperatures (up to 138 °C) and pressures (up to 12 bar) in autoclaves. Besides microscopic investigations (binocular, polarizing microscopy, SEM, cathodoluminescence microscopy), measurements of water absorption and hardness were performed. CL microscopy proved to be the most effective method to reveal the distribution of SiO 2 within and on the surface of the wood samples. Material silicified with colloidal silica and TEOS, respectively absorbed about 40 % less water than untreated specimens. Likewise, the Brinell hardness of treated samples could be increased by nearly 100 % compared to fresh wood samples, which is mainly caused by vitreous silica coatings (generated by sol-gel transformation) at the sample surface.

Study of well mode in open eruption using nodal analysis

Article preview

The work shows general aspects concerning nodal analysis and its application to naturally flowing wells. Also in this paper we investigate fluid flow through porous media and two-phase flow rising through tubing. For this purpose, we construct curves of inflow performance versus reservoir pressure and curves of tubing performance versus wellhead pressure. Based on these curves, the relationship of operating points at differential wellhead and reservoir pressures is established. Finally, conclusions on the gradient curves and curves of dependence of tubing performance on wellhead pressure and gas-oil ratio are given. In addition, the dynamics of change in the parameters of the production well depending on the dynamics of reservoir parameters and at cessation of production by natural inflow is established.

Marine/continental facies patterns, sequence stratigraphy and a gocad-3D-modelling of the carboniferous/permian-boundary of the Donetsk basin

Article preview

The Donetsk basin is the southeastern part of the intracratonic Pripyat-Dniepr-Donetsk Riftsystem, striking in a NW-SE direction from Belarus through Ukraine, over a distance of c. 1500 km the East-European Craton. The profiles of Late Carboniferous and Permian are characterised by interfingering marine-continental sediments in the Donetsk basin. Therefore, the possibility exists, to correlate the non-marine Carboniferous / Permian profiles of Western-Europe with the global marine stratigraphical scale. Detailed analyses of facies patterns and the reconstruction of the depositional setting are based on extensive fieldwork within the Donetsk basin. Microfacies analyses and micropalaeontological investigations of 110 limestone specimens were carried out. Furthermore, the straticraphic cross-sections (stratotype-key-section) of Upper Carboniferous and Lower Permian succession of Artemovsk area was correlated with the marine dominated stratotype section of the Pre-Donetsk basin, the well Skosyrskaya N 4199 (Alekseeva et al. 1983). The maximum flooding surfaces of the transgressive system tracts are represented by carbonate layers. SB and mfs are distinctive horizons throughout the studied area. The results of facies analysis and the sequence-stratigraphical deposition-model were used to develop a relative sea-level curve of the Donetsk basin. This was the base for the correlation of the relative sea-level curve of the Donetsk basin with the global sea-level curve as well as for the estimation of climatic fluctuations as controlling factors of the sea level fluctuations. A GOCAD-3D-model was developed to analyse the facies patterns in three dimensions and to understand subsidence processes during the basin evolution.

Calculation of dissipation energies and parameters of stress waves at explosion of cylindrical explosive charges in a rock

Article preview

A significant part of energy (up to 70%) in explosive destruction is irreversibly spent on heating of rock particles in the near zone and represents dissipative losses. The consequence of intensive dissipative processes is an increase in temperature and the development of induced microcracking in the medium deformed by the explosion. A significant fraction of energy remains in the explosion cavity in the form of internal energy of detonation products and can also be attributed to dissipative losses. Thus, only a part of the explosion energy is spent on the formation of mechanical disturbances. Therefore, when solving problems about the formation and propagation of stress waves, it is necessary to keep in mind the effects of energy dissipation.

Use of bioactive substances at recultivation of bulk dumps and technogenic formations

Article preview

One of the main sources of hazardous air pollution in the territories of mining, metallurgical and enrichment complexes and adjacent areas are dusty surfaces of bulk dumps. As a result of wind erosion fine-dispersed fractions are the most dangerous from the point of view of impact on respiratory organs, easily carried away from the surface for long distances. The method providing reduction of dust formation and dust transfer of fine-dispersed materials, increase of bioproductivity of bulk dumps and quick reclamation is offered. The results of tests of the protective coating for resistance to air flow and the results of bioproductivity of the treated surfaces of dumps are presented.

Technological and technical solutions for prevention and extinguishing of endogenous fires at the mines of OJSC UCC Yuzhkuzbassugol

Article preview

The risk of endogenous fires at the mines of Southern Kuzbass, developing mainly coal seams prone to spontaneous combustion, is quite high. The occurrence of underground fires leads to significant material losses, both direct and for emergency rescue work. The data on the volumes of production from thick seams at the mines of OJSC UCC Yuzhkuzbassugol and on the number of endogenous fires in recent years are given. A comprehensive system of measures to prevent and extinguish endogenous fires at the stage of design, development of the mining area passport, mining and isolation of the mined-out space is proposed. Application of the system will significantly reduce the risk of spontaneous combustion of coal, ensure the safety of mining coal seams prone to spontaneous combustion, and significantly reduce material losses associated with extinguishing endogenous fires.

It is obtained that the angle of coherent scattering of photons depends on the class of sor-bent coarseness. In the process of sorption there is a change in the surface structure, which leads to a change in the scattering angle. Thus, knowing the angle of scattered radiation, it is possible to determine the type of the surface of any porous sorbent, as well as to estimate the degree of filling of the surface with the sorbed substance.

Copper extraction from diluted solutions using hollow fiber supported liquid membranes

Article preview

Copper extraction from wastewater using a liquid membrane based on hollow fibers impregnated with M5640 material has been experimentally investigated. The permeability coefficients increase with increasing pH of the initial solution. At high concentration of hydrogen ions in the stock solution, the process was controlled by diffusion of CuR2 through the liquid membrane. At low concentrations of hydrogen ions, the permeability becomes independent of this factor and the process is controlled by diffusion through an aqueous diffusion layer formed at the interface between the stock solution and the liquid membrane. Experimental studies were consistent with the assumptions of the Danesi model.

Experimental researches on metals extraction with organic solvents by new methods using liquid membranes

Article preview

A hollow fiber based liquid membrane impregnated with organic solvent M5640 diluted with kerosene is an attractive method to extract copper from low copper content (500ppm) industrial wastewater. The flow rate of the feed solution affects the permeability of the membrane. The optimum flow rates of the stock solution and strip solution were 2080 mL/h and 6264 mL/h, respectively. It can be considered that under the above conditions the resistance to mass transfer was close to the minimum due to the small thickness of the diffusion boundary layer.

Efficiency of methane drainage of coal seams in Polish underground mines

Article preview

Coal exploitation in Polish mines is conducted under conditions of associated natural hazards such as methane, fire and coal dust explosion hazards. Orogen drainage is one of the main means of self-monitoring of methane hazards. The possibility of orogen drainage has been approached both from the surface and from underground workings with openings. Methane drainage in a Polish coal mine is caused by: former mine workings, dog-hole workings, especially during their sinking, and haulm. Methane drainage is estimated by the methane flux accompanied in drainage processes to the total methane flux from drainage and ventilation.

Assessment of Industrial Waste Storage Facility Impact on Groundwater

Article preview

Most industrial wastes are environmentally harmful. First of all, this applies to chemical wastes containing leachable organic and inorganic components. Leaky or poorly sealed landfills lead to groundwater seepage. They are typically characterized by high levels of ammonia, arsenic, chromium, lead, copper, zinc, iron, and organic compounds. The results of laboratory analyses of landfill leachates seeping into the soil and water environment are presented and quantitative changes in groundwater flowing from the area of the landfill under study are discussed.

Methodology for assessing the environmental effects during the mining of solid rock by taking into account non-explosive mining techniques

Article preview

The close proximity of mining operations to other commercial and residential properties, conservation areas, and public sensitivity to emissions has led to negative attitudes towards mining in the surrounding areas. Above all, the use of drilling and blasting is objected to, with demands for more environmentally friendly mining methods. It is in this context that non-explosive mining methods are being considered as an option. Indeed, for some quarry operators, the use of such methods is the only alternative. The question is what are the real advantages of these methods and what is the balance between the possible improvement of environmental impacts on the one hand and the technological potential as well as the costs on the other. This paper will therefore consider aspects of the assessment of extraction technologies in the context of their environmental impacts and costs. It is intended to assess the mining techniques for solid rock in their entirety. This paper will therefore look at the aspects for assessing mining techniques in the context of their environmental impact and the costs.

The technical investigations of sprayers in Poland in aspect of protection of natural environment

Article preview

Pollution of the agricultural environment due to the use of chemicals is a serious problem in many countries. Its aim should be to minimize the threat of contamination arising from chemical crop protection. Chemical intervention will only be done properly when it is done with technically efficient equipment. Therefore, it became necessary to introduce certification studies of plant protection equipment. Since 1999 mandatory technical tests of sprayers have been started in Poland. These tests check the serviceability of the sprayer. The legal basis for the system of technical tests of sprayers was the Plant Protection Act.

Increase of work efficiency of the heavy-medium separator

Article preview

The article deals with the problems of mineral processing in separators with dense medium. Low and medium grade coals are not sufficiently concentrated in serial separator designs. The paper proposes an innovative design of a dense media separator with a membrane installed in its bath. The membrane is driven by an eccentric drive. Prevention of mixing of light fractions with heavy fractions is achieved due to the uniform distribution of material throughout the volume of the bath under the action of horizontal pulsating flows created by the movement of the diaphragm. As a result, more efficient concentration of material is observed compared to concentration in existing separator designs.

Improvement of magnetic separation of ferromagnetic materials

Article preview

Magnetic flocculation is of great importance in magnetic beneficiation processes. It is unavoidable in any kind of processing of fine-grained iron-containing materials. This phenomenon reduces the efficiency of both classification and grinding, and also has a negative impact on wet magnetic separation. A promising way to solve the problem of magnetic agglomeration is the use of sodium silicate as a reacting agent. Improvement of the wet magnetic separation process will make it possible to grind thinly melted ores up to complete stripping and obtain high quality concentrates. Intensification of magnetic separation will allow processing rebellious ores, the beneficiation of which is currently associated with significant losses of the iron component.

Product quality management at the enterprises of aluminum industry

Article preview

Modern methods of technical control based on mathematical statistics methods used at Novokuznetsk Aluminum Plant are considered. The new information-technological system introduced in 2004 allows to evaluate the stability of electrolysis production processes by the following main parameters: cryolite ratio, metal level, electrolyte level and temperature, calcium content, frequency of anodic actions. The application of the new software to control electrolyte composition is shown by means of control charts, Pareto diagrams and histograms. It is revealed that the highest percentage of deviations is observed for the parameters obtained by instrumental measurement (metal level, electrolyte level). Compliance with normative and technical documentation is not a quality criterion. To ensure the stability and maintenance of quality indicators and parameters of the electrolysis process at an acceptable level, a number of measures are proposed.

Cost estimation of completeness and quality of mineral extraction from subsoil

Article preview

Globalization of the international mineral resources market leads to a high level of competition between producers of raw materials. The fundamental strategies for the survival of the mining industry in these conditions are to improve the efficiency and quality of mineral extraction, reduce the cost of mining and processing of mineral raw materials. The well-known criterion - the profit received from 1 ton of extracted reserves, does not reflect the dynamics of the above factors. Therefore, a new algorithm for assessing the specific cost criteria of efficiency and quality of copper ore extraction is proposed and demonstrated on the example of Zhezkazgan copper and lead deposit, a new algorithm for assessing the specific cost criteria of efficiency and quality of copper ore extraction.

Research of geometrical and strength parameters of water-insulating cofferdams for protection from water inflows from liquidated mines

Article preview

Computer modeling of various designs of water-insulating cofferdams intended for protection against water inflow from mine workings of liquidated mines is considered. On finite-element models the stress-strain state of flat cofferdams is investigated, isopoles of equivalent compressive and equivalent tensile stresses in the cofferdam and the surrounding rock mass are constructed. The most dangerous sections were determined and the equivalent stresses were plotted. The areas of application and the necessary geometric and strength parameters of flat lintels are established. To increase the bearing capacity and reduce the cost of installation of lintels, it is proposed to use curved lintels, which allow to significantly reduce tensile stresses and thereby increase reliability and expand the area of application of lintels. The rational parameters and application area of curvilinear lintels have been established.

Computer modeling and determination of rational parameters of non-shooting reinforcement of vertical shafts

Article preview

The article deals with computer modeling of rigid reinforcement in vertical shafts of various structures. Finite element models of typical multilink reinforcement (on the example of typical scheme K-2 of the design institute Yuzhgiproshakht), cantilever, cantilever-joint and block reinforcement schemes are constructed. As a result of the conducted research it has been established that slope-free reinforcement schemes with a significant reduction in the number of metal components provide the same and even higher hardness than typical structures. The areas of application and rational parameters of non-braced schemes of reinforcement used in cage and skip shafts with different intensity of hoisting are determined.

Curing of high-strength concrete in natural winter conditions

Article preview

December usually means the beginning of frost. But this does not mean that concrete paving should be put on hold in sub-zero temperatures. The new approach to molding with ultra-fine materials, supported by the active development of new admix-tours, has paved the way for amazing advances in concrete technology in recent years. The rapid development of concrete technology makes it possible to easily prepare high-performance concrete. The question arises whether high-performance concrete can be created at low temperatures. Other examples in civil engineering realized in sub-zero temperatures also suggest this question.

Tax accounting of the expenses connected with performance of works (rendering of services)

Article preview

Taxpayers applying the accrual method should be guided by the procedure for determining the amount of expenses for production and sales set out in Article 318 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation. In practice, organizations rendering services in the sphere of services or the real sphere, when accounting for profit tax, face the problem of allocation of expenses from completed and uncompleted work. This article is devoted to the question: how the cost of unperformed work should be formed in accordance with the tax legislation. The author also proposes an alternative method which takes into account the rule that indirect expenses should be allocated in the same way (as direct expenses) for all transactions performed for more than one accounting period.

The modification of Markowitz portfolios made for stocks from the warsaw stock exchange

Article preview

This paper presents a method for constructing alternative constraints for the Markowitz model. Three models with modification and one standard Markowitz problem give four structures of stock portfolios with different coefficients of extreme risk aversion. The structure of the investment space of each portfolio depends on the coefficient of extreme risk aversion, the shape of the utility function for the selected investment, the ratio of stocks in the portfolio to stocks on the exchange during the selected periods, and the number of stocks. The date sets for the analysis are taken from the WSJ and refer to a planning horizon of 49 months: December 2000 to December 2004.

The elements of marketing in Polish subterranean building industry

Article preview

Utilization of free production possibilities of Polish corporations of underground construction industry, working mainly for mines, could give them a chance for functional activity outside the mining sector as well. The use of marketing elements in the 5P concept seems to be a way to achieve this goal. The issue of restructuring of the Polish mining industry has a significant impact on the underground industry. Therefore, the search for alternative ready markets for the services evidenced by these corporations should take into account marketing services that have common features of marketing activities. A comparative analysis of the investment processes carried out by technical underground construction companies and by the mines themselves shows the advantages that come with the fulfillment of duties.

The implementation and optimizing of the informational systems in the company’s management

Article preview

In today's high-tech world, information in an organization is as important, if not more so, than other assets. The systems and resources that process such information are also of great importance. Any company, whether at the micro or macroeconomic level, or at the international level, cannot exist without information and the communication of that information. However, in order to obtain and communicate information, it is necessary to realize the importance of a system that not only collects data, but also processes and analyzes it.

Reforms in Polish mining

Article preview

In Poland, the process of restructuring the mining industry began in 1989. Huge state centers, transferred to the following governments, were supposed to bring this sector to profitability and competitiveness on the domestic and international market. The lack of consistency in the implementation of restructuring processes has resulted in the implementation of various programs and the achievement of only parts of these reforms over the last 15 years of reforms. Reforming the mining industry is a very complex process. In this article the authors try to summarize the course of the existing rules and the perspective of the mining industry development in Poland in the coming years.

Adaptative Holt’s forecasting model based on immune paradigm

Article preview

In modern management, decision making necessitates forecasting (using appropriate methods) to achieve profitable and smooth functioning of both companies and SMEs. The Holt model is a method that can be used to forecast stock exchange quotes. It is based on the values of two parameters estimating the expected value and its trend. To build a dynamic forecasting model, it is necessary to apply adaptive rules for adjusting the parameters. The paper shows the applicability of the immune paradigm on the example of Holt's adaptive model. Preliminary results of calculations using the constructed algorithm show that the immune paradigm can be considered as a promising way to improve the results (accuracy) of forecasting. They are not absolutely better than the results obtained with the classical Holt method due to a number of factors such as the length of input data, the peculiarity of the method and the design of the algorithm, which is still in the development stage.
