Determination of relative position of wells

Article preview

There are many situations when it is necessary to know the mutual location in space of two or more wells: in oil-bearing areas with high well density, when drilling directional or horizontal wells next to vertical wells, when directing a well near an abandoned area that may be damaged, when reentering and multilateral wells, when drilling rescue wells, etc. This is primarily necessary during the design phase and the well creation phase. This problem involves some procedures, direct or indirect, which are used to determine the distance between two wells at any of their points, as well as the position of one well relative to the other. This paper presents a general method for determining the spatial direction of a well using deviation measurements and a way to graphically represent this direction in two or three dimensions. The aim of the work is to realize the algorithm used to determine the minimum distance between two wells, which can be easily used if a computer is available.
