After disintegration of the USSR the Russian Federation is compelled to buy manganese ores abroad. In a shelf zone of the seas washing borders of the Russian Federation, there are deposits ferromanganese concretion which industrial development will allow to solve partially a problem of absence of own manganous raw material. Existing means for development of firm minerals of a sea-bottom do not allow to fulfil effectively the given deposits, therefore creation new winning machine combining high efficiency and ecological safety is an actual scientific and technical problem.
After disintegration of the USSR the basic part of deposits of manganese ores appeared to be outside the Russian Federation that has led to occurrence of a problem of maintenance of the industry by own manganese raw material. An alternative source of manganese ore can become shelf deposits of manganese nodules. Now all over the world the great number of mechanisms for development of sea-bottom is submitted, but they all of them possess have some lacks. One of their main lacks is difficulty or full impossibility of conducting production works on the big depths.
At present Russia is experiencing a significant deficit of manganese ores. The deposits of ferromanganese nodules of the Baltic Sea can be used as a source of manganese. Several equipment designs have been created for the development of resources on the seabed, but all of them have a number of drawbacks. An innovative plant with intermediate drives for the development of the Baltic Sea bottom sediments has been developed taking into account these disadvantages.
