History of lithogenesis of Lower Permian shikhans
- Authors:
- A. Z. Kagarmanova
The share of gas and oil production from buried reef massifs is constantly increasing. It explains the necessity to carry out geological investigations of hydrocarbon traps such as organogenic reef constructions. But usually drilling data are not sufficient for construction of geological model of the buried reef. Shikhans are surface-emerged massifs and thus they provide unique research material. This paper presents investigation results of the Shakh – Tau and Tora – Tau massifs as well as data on Shakh – Tau quarry mining. This allows detailed studies of structural peculiarities of oil-and-gas prospective Lower Permian reef massifs, which are located in foredeeps, and especially their rock formation and collector properties.

Engineering-geological and geo-ecological assessment of the stability of the rich iron ores of the Yakovlevsky mine (KMA)
- Authors:
- P. V. Kotyukov
The Yakovlevsky deposit of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (KMA) is characterized with large reserves and high grades of iron ores which are products of chemical weathering of ferruginous quartzites in Pre-Paleozoic period. High-grade iron ores (HGIO) are non-compacted variations with high porosity and even macroporosity. Their occurrence depth is over 500 m. The article analyses granulometric composition, physical properties and strength parameters of various highgrade iron ore types. Acceptable level of hydrodynamic pressure is calculated with the view of the pillar width, which is equal to 53 m, and various widths of individual working spans. Forecast time of underground waters penetration from the overlying Low Carboniferous aquifer horizon to the - 370 m horizon is calculated. Conclusions are made on negative impact of underground waters penetration which leads to secondary watering of the high-grade iron ores, a sharp decrease in their durability that creates preconditions for inrush formation.

Engineering and geological aspects of recultivation of territories disturbed by open mining operations
- Authors:
- G. B. Pospekhov
Requirements for construction and mining works have always been taken into account in engineering geology. At present moment the most complicated tasks in mining practice are connected with reclamation of mined-out space. Operation of over two hundred coal mines and coal pits was stopped during the restructuring period in the Russian coal industry and they are currently go through different stages of the mine abandonment process. Land reclamation is a topical issue in open-cast mining, where the main task is to maintain stability during the recultivation period and subsequent use of the worked-out pits. Reliability of geomechanical calculation depends on the quality of geological data. Efficiency of activities to eliminate impact from mining works on surrounding environment is significantly decreasing when such data is incomplete or unavailable.

Geochemical peculiarities of noble-metal mineralization of the Klimovskaya area (the White Sea zone of Northern Karelia)
- Authors:
- O. A. Savicheva
This paper considers peculiarities in element composition of geological objects of the Klimovskaya area, which is a part of the larger Chupa-Louhi area within the White Sea mobile belt of Northern Karelia. It has been revealed that the following four main geochemical types of ore mineralization are characteristic of this area: Pt, Pd; Au, Bi, Ag; Cu, Ni, Co; Pb, Zn, Cd. Presence of two perspective types of noble metal mineralization has been confirmed, which are sulfide bearing metasomatic rocks replacing amphibolites, having essentially palladium with minor platinum mineralization, and quartz enriched zones with gold-bismuth-silver mineralization. Secondary halos have been detected in loose deposits of the local Keretsky area which makes it possible to forecast zones of Pt-Pd and Au-Bi-Ag mineralization in bedrocks.

Nano-irregularities in plagioclases. Features of small-angle X-ray scattering from crystalline mineral powders
- Authors:
- A. P. Simakov
Powders of irizing and non-irizing plagioclases (labrador and albite) were studied using a small-angle X-ray camera. The obtained curves of X-ray small-angle scattering in the coordinates "scattering intensity" - "backspace vector modulus" on a double logarithmic scale reveal a pronounced rectilinear dependence. The fractal dimensionality for these curves is D=2. This indicates that the particles of the studied plagioclase powders have a flat surface in a wide range of sizes from 10 to 150nm. It is assumed that during mineral grinding, fractures occur predominantly along certain planes. A similar scattering pattern is observed on quartz powders: a rectilinear dependence and fractal dimension D=2 are obtained. It is assumed that this peculiarity of X-ray scattering is not related to the property of mineral cleavage.

As the population of our planet grows, the degree of negative impact on the biosphere steadily increases. This is due to the fact that, on the one hand, more and more minerals are extracted, more plant and animal products are harvested, more and more natural water is used for industrial, residential and agricultural purposes (Table 1), reclaimed land is brought into agricultural turnover, cities and settlements, production facilities are built, etc. On the other hand, the economic activity of mankind is steadily accompanied by an increase in the volume of various kinds of industrial and municipal wastes. For example, such components as garbage, waste and refuse are accumulated on a global scale in the amount of more than 20 10 tons per year.

Opportunities to use the Stox equipment for relative estimation of antifriction properties of a solid surface are justified. Measuring of time and speed of uniform movement of similar steel balls with different nanocoatings showed that the least time (the highest speed) was registered for the sample which contains both kinds of cationic tensides in its surface layer. The data does not contradict results of industrial tests on conveyers with steel transport band and the best antifriction effect for lubricant composition.
