Spectrophotometric analysis of fine-grained fraction of red-colored strata

Article preview

The paper displays preliminary results of using the method of partitioning red-colored sediments on the base of spectrophotometric characteristics of their pigmenting fine-grained fraction. The rocks were differentiated by reflectance spectra of the surface of specimens prepared by precipitation of fine particles from water suspension on glass. The reflectance coefficients were measured with optical spectophotometer SPECORO 200 at various corners of the specimen inclination to a light ray. Tangents of the angle of slope of reflectance curve in different spectral regions and the color coordinates in the colorimetric system XYZ were used as numerical characteristics.

Dissection and correlation of red-colored strata on the basis of X-ray diffractometric analysis of clay fraction minerals

Article preview

Analysis of red terrigenous rocks with application of the X-ray diffraction method was carried out as part of the research on the example of Upper-Sorbian sediments of the Southeastern part of the White Sea region. The first results of the experimental research are considered and the possibility was shown to differentiate and correlate red beds basing on x-ray characteristics of fine fraction of the rocks.

Granite Crown of St. Petersburg

Article preview

A historical review of the granite deposits of the Northwest of Russia, which have been used and are used in the construction of the city, has been performed. Five types of granites represented in these deposits are considered: trachytoid, ovoid, porphyritic plagiomicrocline, plagioclase, and red fine-grained. The geographical location of the deposits and the routes by which stone was transported to St. Petersburg are shown. Characteristic features of granite each of the deposits are described and the most famous buildings and monuments, the creation of which was used granite, these fields. Indicated, on which deposits extraction of stone is terminated, and where development continues. Illustrations allow to judge about continuity in use of granite as a building material, despite existence of varying architectural styles of different epochs. The report is prepared with the use of the program PowerPoint. The report is placed on 21 slides. Due to the possibilities of the program for animation of images achieved high visibility of the illustrative material. Wide possibilities of the program have allowed to transfer beauty and unique individuality of each type of a granite.

Powerpoint computer presentation program

Article preview

The computer presentation of reports is now universally accepted at conferences of various levels. The possibility of creating a computer version of the presentation of the report allows the program PowerPoint, which is one of the components of the package Microsoft Office. The program PowerPoint makes it possible to create slides (sheets), illustrating the materials of the report, and augment them with sound and animation effects, which allows to present the report in the most obvious way. Since its introduction in 1987, Microsoft PowerPoint marked the beginning of a qualitatively new way of presenting reports on the computer. Nowadays a computer presentation of a report is not a separate set of slides, but an integrated computer action. PowerPoint creates audio-visual presentations for presenting various ideas, plans, projects, reports, etc. to a wide audience. The use of PowerPoint is illustrated by two different reports: “SPGGI through the Eyes of a Freshman” and “S. S. Smirnov as a Teacher and Scientist. To the 100th Anniversary of the GRMPY Department”. The presentations contain, respectively, 13 and 9 sheets each. The effects used and their implementation by means of the program PowerPoint are described. For greater expressiveness used sound accompaniment presentations.
