Regional forecasting and metallogenic studies of uranium and their role in the formation of the mineral resource base of nuclear industry in Russia

Article preview

Review of the up-to-date state of the mineral resources base of uranium shows that the current value of uranium production from the Russian ore deposits can not supply even the country’s internal needs as at present so in the close five year future. In the vastest country, any large nor super-large uramum ore deposit was not discovered during last two decades or more. Actually advised for prospecting areas have within their limits an appraised amount of 5-10 thousand tons of the metal as hypothetical resources (Pi category), which indicates the principally low potential of those territories, the low probability to discover there some large uranium ore bodies. The situation needs to research some ways for more effective forecasting of promising uranium-bearing structures. For the purpose, the principal commercial type of uranium deposits are considered on the base of analysis of their ore-forming and uranium-concentrating processes. By example of the unique ore bodies of the Athabasca region, there are distinguished several, disengaged in time, preparative and concentrating processes subsequently participating in the uranium ore forming. Comparison of deposits in the Athabasca province and the Ladoga region shows that in the latter ones ore bodies are connected with the lesser number of oregenerating processes, and thus, those objects have the lower uranium-bearing potential. In the whole, analysis of the actual state of the uranium mineral resources base and the potential uranium-bearing of the Russia’s geological structures leads to conclusion about necessary strengthening of geological trend in metallogeny-forecasting and prospecting for uranium. It means development of the complex geological, geophysical, mineralogical-geochemical and some other typees of investigations aimed for revealing of the structural-substantial peculiarities in the uranium-promising formations and geological structures, as well as to thorough study of the ore-forming systems evolution.

Peculiiarities of geodynamic development оf the devonian graben at Spitsbergen archipelago

Article preview

The new data on geology of Devonian graben and subjacent complexes allow reviewing the evolution of geodynamic processes in this region during Riphean-Paleozoic. It was confirmed that Cambrian – Early Silurian series were formed in the platform environment under conditions of stable dome-like uplifting of the territory, and the subalkaline granitoids (S2-D1) may be classified as anorogenic intrusion. Devonian riftogenesis was a sequel of regeneration of the Riphean paleo- rift in conditions of general spreading. There are distinguished three stages in formation of the graben: pre-graben, orogenic and post-orogenic ones, with description of complexes formed at those stages. Concluding processes of this type are related to formation of fluorite-barite-рolymetallic occurrences and alkaline-ultrabasic dykes (D3) in zones of deep faults. The conclusion is made that the crust block, representing basement of the Barenz-sea plate in the region, has gone through the recurrent intra-plate riftogenesis in the Middle Paleozoic.

Geochemical barriers in supergene nickel deposit on the example Buruktal deposit (South Urals)

Article preview

The main geochemical barrier in supergene Buruktal nickel deposit is oxygen oxidized barrier in upper ferrous-oxide zone of the deposit. It makes sharp decrease of chemical element migration. Nevertheless, ore mineral concentrations present oft in complex geochemical barriers: absorbed-oxidized, carbonate-reducing and others. Every type of the geochemical barriers is able to concentrate specific association of migrated elements. That reflected on the different values of coefficients of enrichment in different types of Buruktal metasomatites. Oxidized barrier is more effective for elements with different valence (Fe, Mn), and absorbed clay, ferrous-oxide und manganese-oxide barriers are more effective for the main part of microelements.

Preparation of iron-ore materials for iron and steel industry

Article preview

Briquetting in ferrous metallurgy is the earliest way clotting. In the beginning of XX century briquetting has been forced out by agglomeration basically for the reason considerably more productivity of process of agglomeration. As alternative to agglomeration pelletizing  became.  It started to be popular in the XX-th century, that is quite explainable by essential increase of manu- facture fine particle concentrates. However briquetting has a number of advantages. For  some  kinds of iron ores briquetting can be preferable process. Such ores are rich iron ores with iron content 60 % and more. The technology of briquetting includes crushing, preliminary screening for removing of large particle size classes; dispensing and mixing martite ore, and hydrohematite ores; mixing with binder substances; pressing; screening for removing of small size briquettes; drying. The received briquettes have density 3200-3600 kg/m3, durability on uniaxial compression more then 4,5 MPа.

Characteristics of 2D- and 3D-potential field anomaly interpretation

Article preview

This paper contains methods of gravity and magnetic data processing with evaluation of effective density and magnetic intensity of rocks. The most preferred method of 3D-processing so as to create three dimensional models of gravity and magnetic distribution is that one which count gravity and magnetic fields around a circle near the calculation point. It is highly effectively to use this method if there are some isometric objects. This algorithm leads to a geometry distortion of the resulting objects and a marked increase in predicted depth if examined bodies are twodimensional and overlie horizontal or aslope. This might cause errors in data interpretation.

Application of inphase response component by low-frequency airborne electroprospecting EM-4H system

Article preview

Each year there is a great volume of airborne electromagnetics in Russia, estimated hundred thousand linear kilometers. Among the equipment involved in this survey, the greatest share is occupied by system, developed by «Geotechnologies» JS. Changing position between receiver and transmitter leads  to changing of induced field parameters in receiver axes by value much higher than amplitude of the useful signal. Until recently, due to this circumstance, it was impossible to use inphase component of the response in data interpretation. Institute of Control Sciences together with «Geotechnologies» JS has developed algorithms that allow to detemine relative positioning of the receiver axes with respect to inducing moment vector. It has allowed passing without accuracy loss from polarization ellipse invariants to components of the reflected field. Their usage led to a new quality level of interpretation.

Multidimentional analysis and data visualisation of differentially normalized electrical method on the Barents sea shelf

Article preview

Intensive offshore exploration is being conducted at the present time. Due to areal alterations over the hydrocarbon deposits high pyrite concentration is accumulated. This effect results in induced polarization anomalies which can be discovered with differentially normalized electrical method. The survey is being carried out in the process of a vessel movement by six channels. dU(t) fields are obtained per one current pulse. These data are highly-correlated. Transformation of these data into orthogonal high dimension space as well as robust multivariate regression procedure application allow to distinguish the geological heterogeneities response. This investigation is developing  the anomalies recognition technique.

Pyrite presence was marked in this borehole. The relaxation time is study. It was determined that in the vicinity of the borehole exceeds too much this parameter which was received within the limits of anomalies above known hydrocarbon deposits. It is supposed, that the distinction is caused  by features of polarizing processes. The relaxation time should be increased, if a pyrite surface is oxidized, i.e. provided that reducing environment will change on oxidizing. By results of researches it was concluded, that the most probable reason of IP anomaly formation in borehole area is epigene pyrite, arisen under influence of pre-existing here and later destroyed deposit.
