Feasibility study of optimal parameters of pillars in designing rockburst-hazardous ore deposits development

Article preview

The safe parameters of temporary interchamber pillars have been determined for the chamber-and-pillar method with ore discharge on trenches in designing of underground mining  of the Koashva apatite-nepheline deposit. The results of calculation of economical efficiency of comparable parameters are presented. It was substantiated that the economical efficiency of application of the chamber-and-pillar method up to the depth of 800 m is related to the increase of natural yielding of interchamber pillars.

Science-based procedural guidelines for coalmine methane drainage under conditions of higly gas-bearing seam intensive mining

Article preview

Efficient Production of coal faces and safety of coal mining in relation to gas content while mining the highly gas-bearing coal seams shall be provided by using the highly efficient drain-age and clearing means of the coalmine methane emission sources. In order to provide efficient basis for decision making and validating of technical solutions while designing the coalmine drainage systems there have been developed the Technical Regulations for Methane Extraction and Recovery under conditions of active highly gas-bearing seam mining. These Technical Regulations were successfully tested in course of process design of the coalmine methane drain- age systems for Kirov and Kotinskaya Mines owned by SUEK-Kuzbass.

Substantiation of techniques and methods of technogeneous deposits forming represented by rock refuse and waste rock dumps at open pit mining

Article preview

There are large waste rock dumps and uneconomical ore storages when open pit mining is used. Mining companies must create these dumps and storages observing special rules, if mineral deposits might be utilized in future. The technological properties of ores and rocks as  well as the conditions of forming and storage should be taken  into consideration. It is possible to reach high productive efficiency if the market will demand these commodities.

Provision of geodynamic safety in mining the Barentsburg coal deposit

Article preview

The minable seam «Verkhny» within the Barentsburg coal deposit is geodynamically hazardous, its geodynamic phenomena manifest itself in the form of proper rock bursts,  shocks in the marginal zones and dynamic faults of  ground. Due to rockburst-hazardous situation the application of the areal relief of rock mass with transition to technological variants of mining with leaving the extended rib pillars at the boundary with the mined-out space, with their cutting by drivage of additional working is applied. Consideration  is  given  to the recommended  variants of pillar leaving  with  the data  of their assignment and applicability to geological-and-mining conditions of mine field sections. Description is given to the calculation of pillar sizes and parameters used for their calculations. Some examples are given of pillar leaving at different sections of mine field with geometrical parameters as well as the information is given on the seam extraction with prospecting  routes (paths) with leaving the support rib and barrier pillars. Safety problems of mining operations in high-stress hard rock massif

Article preview

Intensive development of large-scale deposits in high-stressed rock masses results in sharp activation of mining-induced processes in the earth depths and the surface thus initiates increasing of seismic activity in the mining area and hazard of rockbursts and mining-induced earthquakes. As reliable spatial-temporal prediction of dynamic events in the mines is problematic in the current state of methodology and geomechanical experiment technique, therefore, it is required to assess risks of  these events which scale determines corresponding preventive measures.

Interaction between seismic activity in Kuzbass and open-pit operations

Article preview

The analysis of graphs shows seismic events repeatability and seismic events distribution during the day, by days of the week and by months was made. It is shown, that seismic activity in Kuzbass region has a mixed natural and manmade character and figures of repeatability have interim character, the majority of seismic events occur in the time of blasting operations in open   pit mining, but the distribution by month of the year corresponds to planetary pattern – the larg est number of events takes place in March, August and December. It  was suggested that the  spring increase in  seismic activity lead to reduced  stability of mine slopes during the snowmelt  of landslides formation.

Factors of alumina dust formation in primary aluminum production

Article preview

All types of raw materials used in aluminum production, are finely dispersed structures, which cause dusting during manufacturing operations, which leads to the formation of substandard raw material deposits. Their turnover in primary production contributes to the deterioration of techno-economic parameters of the  process. Alumina dust samples werea  collected  with  a mark of 16,0 meters  on  aluminum smelters in Russia, in the process of various technologies application. While in the upper layers alumina absorbss moisture, fluorides, and carbon. Penetration of fluoride in the amount of alumina particles depends of the crystallographic characteristics of the grains. At high stratification of the particles, fluorides are evenly distributed on the surface, and in the bulk of the particles. Mostly solid fluorides penetrate into cracks and deformation of the grains of alumina  and hydrogen fluoride is adsorbed on the surface with the formation of aluminum   fluoride. Alumina dust produced by the company operating for a long time with the cryolite ratio 2,2-2,35, contains a large amount of silicon. Silicon compound coat grain acicular alumina film.

Particularities of gold ore deposit development in complex environment

Article preview

Review of the design experience in the open-cut development of a very large gold ore steeply pitching deposit are given. Complicating factors are previous underground workings and pressure subpermafrost waters. Opening of depth horizons by ore and rock incline conveyor shafts. Crushing of ore and rock in an open-pit mine before they are delivered to conveyors by semi-mobile crushers. Water depression by ring-type workings with transportation of the collected water by conveyor shafts.

Article preview

Beryllium is the first of metals in Mendeleev periodic system, derived by reduction at the stage of low temperatures. The granules dimensioned interval is optimized in analytical research of beryllium fluoride reduction regularities. The maximum dimension for beryllium fluoride is 24 mm, minimum is not less than 1 mm. The optimal value of parameter is in mean value depreciation area (10-18 mm). The maximum dimension for magnesium is 24 mm and corresponds to 1 mol.
