Development of the technology of stowing the developed space during mining
- Authors:
- Evgenii R. Kovalskii

An analysis of the world experience in the development of potash deposits shows that the main problems arising during their development are a high level of mineral losses, an increased risk of flooding of mine workings as a result of water-proof layer discontinuance and the development of emergency water inflows in the mined-out spaces. Reduction of potash ore losses can be achieved by using a long-pillar mining system, but this method is limited by the peculiarities of the geological structure of the potash deposits and the need to preserve the continuity of the water-proof layer during its underworking. The safety of underworking of the water-proof layer can be improved by using the stowing of the developed longwall space. However, the question of the influence of the stowing on the height of the zone of water supply cracks development remains little-studied. The world experience of stowing the developed spaces in the development of layers with long pillars is analyzed and the technology of placing the stowing masses, which can solve these problems, is proposed. The considered technology and the proposed solutions are supported by laboratory tests of stowing materials and mathematical modeling of deformation zones in the overlying rocks.

Natural ventilation of gas space in reservoir with internal floating roof

The article deals with safe operation issues of vertical steel reservoirs with an internal floating roof when storing volatile oil products. The purpose of the work is to study the influence of ventilation openings area and wind speed on the duration of explosive state of vertical reservoirs with an internal floating roof. The influence of ventilation pipes' dimensions and the wind speed on the duration of explosive state of the reservoir has been studied. Method for calculating this time is proposed. It is shown that natural ventilation of the reservoir gas space is caused by the effect of two forces, which are formed due to: 1) the density difference between the vapor-air mixture in the reservoir and outside air; 2) wind pressure occurring on the roof of the reservoir. An algorithm for calculating the duration of reservoir being in an explosive state with wind pressure and no wind is obtained. The greater the difference in geodetic marks of the central and peripheral nozzles, the more efficient the ventilation. This distance will be greatest if the lower ventilation pipes are located on the upper belt of the reservoir or the reservoir is equipped with an air drain. Increase in wind speed of more than 10 m/s does not significantly affect the duration of the reservoir being in an explosive state. Increasing the diameter of the central nozzle from 200 to 500 mm can significantly reduce the duration of the reservoir degassing in windless weather.

Effect of surface geometry and insolation on temperature profile of green roof in Saint-Petersburg environment
- Authors:
- S. A. Ignatev
- D. S. Kessel
The paper addresses an issue of creating an environment favorable for the life in megacities by planting vegetation on the rooftops. It also provides information about rooftop greening practices adopted in other countries. The issues of ‘green roof’ building in climatic conditions of Saint Petersburg and roof vegetation impact on the urban ecosystem are examined. Vegetation composition quality- and quantity-wise has been proposed for the roof under research and a 3D model of this roof reflecting its geometric properties has been developed. A structure of roof covering and substrate qualitative composition is presented. An effect of rooftop geometry on the substrate temperature is explored. The annual substrate temperature and moisture content in different parts of the roof have been analyzed. Results of thermal imaging monitoring and insolation modelling for different parts of green roof surface are presented.

Some approaches to secure mining of potash deposits
- Authors:
- O. V. Kovalev
- S. P. Mozer
The basic aspects of safe mining of potash deposits is reviewed. Practical examples of the mechanism and possible consequences of violating the integrity of the waterproof rock strata are described. Use of remote non-destructive monitoring system for non-destructive integrity breeds of the waterproof rock strata is proposed.

Studies conducted in the mines «Rostovugol», showed that, for assessing the sustainability of preparatory excavations in the management of sewage treatment works is enough to determine the allowable values of convergence of the roof and ground-level workings and potential energy of elastic deformation of the pillars. These indicators can be used in the coal mines of other basins.

Prediction of dynamic manifestations of rock pressure in the all over automated longwalls

The support control system «MARCO» has programs for the estimation of a geomechanical situation around the face by continuous measurements of pressure in the legs of support. The analysis of the face convergence allows to predict the possibility of a rock burst. The seam’s reaction on the shearer or plough influence may be the dangerous main roof collapse into the mine-out space of longwall.

The aspect of maintenance of roof stability of active stopes in mines of the Western Donbass is considered in the article. The conclusion is drawn on the probability of coal falls formation during mining operations in disturbed areas. Principal causes of coal fall formation are considered on the bais of natural surveying observations. Connections between technological parameters of longwall and geometrical parameters of disturbance are established.

The substantiation of reinforcing support of preparation mines in the ore massive of the Yakovlevskiy deposit
- Authors:
- Yu. N. Antonov
- V. Yu. Sinegubov
The paper justifies a design of reinforcing mine support of the protective roof at the priority high-grade ore mining site of the Yakovlevskiy deposit. Experience of mine roadway support with the KMP-A3 standing support has been analyzed. A reinforcing support is offered consisting of rock bolts back bracing the ore exposure, which best fits with continuous miner roadheading and consolidating stowing (concrete).

Preconditions for application of supports of different types in productive workings of low-thick gently-pitching deposits in tectonically stressed massif (for conditions of the Karnasurt ore mine)
- Authors:
- A. V. Lovchikov
- A. V. Matytsyn
The paper presents the data on the mining-geological conditions for mining and types of stope supports applied at the Karnasurt Mine, the Lovozersky rare-metal deposit. The peculiar feature of mining conditions is the presence of high subhorizontal tectonic stresses in the rock masses, which make the stope roofs more stable, allowing application of non-reinforced types of support.
