Application of vertical magnetic component in magnetotelluric method to estimate parameters of anomalous objects away from the profile line

Article preview

The problem of estimating the effect of anomalous bodies situated away from the profile line occurs in magnetotelluric data interpretation, as well as in other geophysical methods. In this case using of magnetic-variation profiling (MVP) data is important. MVP method can be used together with magnetotelluric sounding (MTS) method. It is done by adding a channel for measuring a vertical magnetic component (Hz). MTS and MVP methods can be applied together due to the use of precise tripods. MTS and MVP methods together increase the possibility of es-timating the effect of anomalous bodies situated away from the profile line. The research target is to determine parameters of an anomalous conductive body situated away from and parallel to the profile line. This work shows how the depth of a 2D conductive body situated away from the station can be determined by tipper frequency responses (on condition the distance between the station and the body is specified). The step-by- step method for determining the depth of an anomalous body has been used in this work. The introduced method allows avoiding gross mis-takes in interpretation, as well as constructing a valid 3D model.

Possibilities for localization of zones of hydrocarbon accumulation by application of АМТ-data component analysis

Article preview

Principal component method was used for qualitative interpretation of a matrix of magnetotelluric parameters. Localization of hydrocarbon congregation was the purpose of the investigations. Model of subvertical diffusion of hydrocarbon from reservoir was used as physical basis of oil and gas prospecting. The hydrocarbon роо l generates continuous spatial halation of hydrocarbon above the reservoir. Due to reducing reactions in the area the volumetric pyritization of rocks took place.

Application of 2DMTZ for oil prospecting in the delta of the St. Clee River (south-eastern Ontario, Canada)

Article preview

2D magnetotelluric surveying with measurements of horizontal component of magnetotelluric (MT) field was carried out by «Phoenix Geophysics» company on 2000 at a prospect in southeast part of Ontario province. The investigations evidences, that МТS data could locate areas of improvement of Silurian limestone reservoir features, which are associated with dolomitization zones along deep faults. Characteristic features of the dolomitization zones, predicted from МТS data, were confirmed by following drilling. Re-treatment of the MT date on 2006 with the use of the latest version of software provided significantly improvement of MTS curves. Results of the concrete geological structure modeling demonstrated, that vertical component data of MT field are more informative to the problem being studied. The key problems are accuracy of setting of MT vertical component data measurement sensor and thermo stabilization of every three sensors. Special equipments (tripods) manufactured under the «Phoenix Geophysics» company contract, provide the both problems adequate solving.
