Strategy of rational development of Siberian platform high-quality helium resources

Article preview

A large gashelium geochemical province has been discovered in the south of the Siberian Platform. 36 fields containing commercially viable concentration of helium are found in Precambrian strata. Heliumsaving technologies of processing natural gas are impossible without solving a problem of storing extracted helium concentrate. It is advisable to build underground gas storage facilities in the Cambrian rock salt deposits. The main helium reserves are concentrated in natural gases of the Siberian Platform of the Russian Federation and in gases of the U.S. Mid-continent and the Rocky Mountains. Helium is transported to suppliers both in the gaseous and liquid state. Construction of the gas pipeline «Power of Siberia», which will run along the oil pipeline «Eastern Siberia – Pacific Ocean» in a single corridor, has begun. It is expedient to connect helium gas fields to a network of local gas pipelines and on their basis to create gas processing centers (Talakan-Chayanda, Kovykta, Yurubcheno-Tokhomo, Sobin-Paygin, etc.).

Study on disintegration of very clayey sands in precious metal deposits

Article preview

The article covers findings of the research on very clayey sands of the gold placer in the stream Mad, Primorsky Krai. The sands of the gold placer studied proved to be rather compli-cated for disintegration and subsequent enrichment owing to high content of dispersed factions, iron oxides, and the clay mineral montmorillonite and have low dynamics of reducing elastic properties under water saturation. To solve the problem of disintegration of very clayey sands with low dynamics of deformation properties under water saturation the authors justified the need for further research into processes based on conversion of the kinetic energy of the fluid flow in the energy of acoustic oscillations with a sequential combination of additional hydrodynamic effects including jet division.

Results of applying self-potential method and electrical resistivity tomography to study Alexandrovsky settlement (Kaluga region)

Article preview

Alexandrovsky ancient settlement is situated in the Kaluga region near the river Voria and Alexandrovka village. Self potential (SP) measurements with new non-polarizing electrodes of the second generation instead of traditional copper-copper sulfate electrodes were performed in 2013 and increased the quality of measurements. SP data were analyzed together with electrical resistivity tomography (ERT). The authors found filtration SP anomalies and proved that the main SP anomaly has diffusion-adsorption origin, determined that the Alexandrovsky site of the ancient settlement has decreased SP values.

The development of prediction method of earth-pressure balance and earth surface settlement during tunneling with mechanized tunnel boring machines

Article preview

The development of prediction method of earth surface settlement during the tunneling in heavy geological conditions of megalopolises was the purpose of the article.   The experimental-analytical and numerical prediction methods of earth surface settlement during tunneling by mechanized tunnel boring machines are proposed and justified.   The volume balance of earth surface settlement and volume of additionally excavated soil during tunneling are accepted as initial condition for experimental-analytical prediction method. The comparison of predicted and experimental data of earth surface settlement in different countries is performed. The prediction with numerical methods is produced in 3D with application of elastic-plastic soil body model. The matching of numerical calculations data and data of experiments and analytical calculation is revealed. The proposed prediction methods may be used for geotechnical substantiation of projects of tunneling in heavy geological conditions.

Quantitative seed impact on mass crystallization indicators of chemical sediments

Article preview

One of the problems to be solved in the course of exsolution of crystal sediments is to re-ceive products with desired technological properties. Two fundamentally different approaches can be applied for its resolution depending on method of supersaturation and requirements to the crystal sediments quality. In case of high supersaturation growth centers arise spontaneously and their number determines the properties of the final product to a large degree. The crystallization in the metastable region of solutions prevents spontaneous crystal nucleation and an introduc-tion of the seed phase becomes inevitable in this case. The nature of this phase determines the properties of the final product to some extent. During the real process there are mechanisms that disrupt the normal growth of crystals, causing distortion, leading to heterogeneous nucleation and recrystallization with degradation of seed material even. The line between these trends is the limiting supersaturation value, attrib-uted to the unit of phase interface. In this case the development of appropriate growth mecha-nisms is proportional to the deviation of the specific supersaturation of the solution from its value limit. The traditional source of heterogeneous nucleation is the mechanical interaction of the particles. The interaction probability is proportional to their concentration. Particles’ mass and their size becomes the most significant heterogeneous nucleation factor for seed particles of the same nature and morphology at the conditions of reproducible stream turbulence. Mathe-matical description of these trends has allowed to establish the dependence of the final particles’ size on the seed concentration in the feed pulp and to show the existence of a minimum number of particles of the final product. Experimental study of the of chemical sediments’ properties that depend on the seed amount, was carried out in relation to the breaking-up of aluminate solutions of alumina production. The process of selection of aluminum hydroxide has allowed to establish the amount of the seed aluminum hydrox-ide, resulting in a product of maximum size, and thus to confirm the theoretical conclusions.

The use of polymer composite materials in the friction nodes downhole oil pumps

Article preview

The paper considers the application of polymer composite materials in friction units of downhole oil pumps. The proposed scheme test samples of various composite materials paired with a steel roller adopted by the size of the spots wear using the criterion of resistance. As it is shown significant influence on the wear resistance of the friction pair, working in the crude oil environment, has not only the composition but also the reinforcing fibers direction. The best re-sults were obtained for a sample of polyamide reinforced with 50 % of high molecular weight synthetic fibers placed perpendicular to the friction surface.

Incentives for creation the competitive rare-earth industry in Russia in the context of global market competition

Article preview

One of the fundamental development factors of global economy is the steady growth of consumption and production of the rare-earth metals (REM). It has been an indicator of eco-nomic development and national security in industrialized countries for decades. The existing resource dependence on the Chinese producers and monopolization of the market promoted ex-tension and realization of REM development state programs in many countries. Established un-der the conditions of centrally planned economy, the Russian rare earth industry is off so far. The key factors of the Russian REM industry degradation are the gap of technological chains, the lack of internal demand for innovative products of high degrees of processing, the low level of mineral processing technologies, the need for skilled workers, the large-scale investments re-quirement. So the interrelation and the difficulty of assessing and managing these factors within their strategic nature actualize the problem of implementation and development of an integrated national program aimed to promote the creation and development of rare-earth production and consumption. Objective: To determine the strategic priorities of creating a system of production-consumption of rare earth industry in Russia in the face of global competition and the mecha-nisms of their maintenance by government regulation. Methodology of research: comparative analysis, system analysis and economic market analysis, forecasting techniques, methods of expert assessment.  Research results: The supply and demand assessment of REM global and domestic market in the medium and long term is given. Research covers the state, problems and prospects for re-covery and development of Russian REM industry. The opportunities for operational commis-sioning of natural and man-made sources of rare earth materials are identified. The comparative analysis of existing programs of state regulation of REM in the developed countries is carried out. The proposals for the recovery and development of REM in Russia are formulated.

Docking zones of responsibility for achieving development targets of commodity companies

Article preview

Case studies show the urgency of the problem of securing zones of responsibility for achieving development targets. The article gives a current practice analysis in the domestic economy. The importance for companies not only to assess past achievements, but to study the characteristics of the development prospects is stressed. The article deals with questions of quantification, targeting and allocation of responsibility for achieving development targets of commodity companies. The cost of oil and gas companies as a criterion for its development is analized.  The impact of various factors on the cost is assessed. The article high lightens the role of external factors in the current period as well as the importance of the fundamental ones. It also shows the possibility of calculating out come indicators by different measures in the face of negative factors. The system of targeted strategic and planning targets for quantitative assess-ment of the strategic goal sand objectives to achieve the misdemonstrated. For example, the largest Russian company Gazprom shows one way to implement such an approach. Gazprom's system of targeted strategic, planning and monitoring indicators for quan-tifying the strategic objectives and ways of achieving the misshown and management based on targeting and consolidation of areas of responsibility is recommended.

Multistage character of gold mineralization at the Nora area (Amur region)

Article preview

The Nora area located in the Dzhagdy-Selemdshinsky metallogenic zone (the eastern part of the Mongol-Okhotsk fold belt) is poorly explored but there is an evident prospect for discov-ering a hard-rock gold deposit. Based on the common Mongol-Okhotsk fold belt strike and the previous exploration results, the recent prospecting works were focused upon revealing ore-bodies of the east-west strike. Analysis of their data has drown the conclusion that there might be at least two stages of gold-bearing mineralization at the explored area. The first one - Au -Ag-As-W stage is typical for deposits in the Dzhagdy -Selemdshinsky zone. It occurs mostly in ore-bodies of the east-west strike. The second – later stage, with the Au-(Ag)-Pb-(Zn) association, has been for the first time detected at this area. It is controlled by latent fractured structures of the north-south strike. Maximum gold concentration is characteristic for ore-bodies with combined development of both stages. Revealed regularities in location of various types gold-bearing mineralization should be taken into consideration for the grid of prospecting works and confirm the high potential of the Nora area.
