Mathematical modeling of the electric field of an in-line diagnostic probe of a cathode-polarized pipeline

Article preview

A mathematical model of the in-line control of the insulation resistance state for cathodically polarized main pipelines according to electrometry data is considered. The relevance of the work is caused by the opportunity to create in-line internal isolation defects indicators of the main pipelines for transported liquids that are good conductors and expand the functionality of monitoring and controlling cathodic protection systems of the main pipelines. Features of the mathematical model are: consideration of the electric conductivity of transported liquid influence on electric field distribution; consideration of the influence of external and internal insulating coating resistance; use of the electric field of an in-line diagnostic probe for quality control of internal insulation. Practical significance consists in the development of modeling methods for control subsystems of main pipeline protection against corrosion and the development of special mathematical and algorithmic support systems for monitoring and controlling the operating modes of the cathodic protection station of main pipelines.

Energy efficiency in the mineral resources and raw materials complex

Article preview

Energy efficiency and energy saving at all times and especially at the present stage of development of industry and economy have played an extremely important role. Regardless of which countries and according to what criteria they build energy development plans, energy efficiency and energy saving are always a priority. This fully applies to the mineral resources complex, in which energy consumption as a whole makes up a large share of total consumption. The resources mined in the mineral resources complex are themselves a source of energy. The energy sector is evolving in many ways. Many scientific works, the results of which are reflected in publications, confirm the relevance of research in the energy efficiency field. But the approach to individual decisions in the mineral resource industry is specific and it is worth of separate consideration. Recently, much attention has been paid to “green energy” and renewable energy sources. However, energy efficiency in the field of traditional generation and consumption remains an urgent problem and its solution is in constant development. One of the main directions for improving energy efficiency is the development of autonomous systems for the electrical and thermal power engineering. All these problems are reflected in a special volume of the Journal of the Mining Institute, the articles are divided into four sections: energy efficiency of the electric drive in the mineral resources complex (MRC); energy efficiency of industrial plants and enterprises in MRC; power quality and renewable sources in MRC; autonomous power supply systems in MRC. The presented articles contain valuable material from the scientific and practical points of view and can form the basis for further research in the energy efficiency field.

Experimental study of thermomechanical effects in water-saturated limestones during their deformation

Article preview

Stability control of elements of stone constructions of various structures is a prerequisite for their safe operation. The use of modern methods of non-destructive diagnostics of the stress-strain state of such constructions is an effective, and in many cases the only way to control it. Studies of thermal radiation accompanying the processes of solid bodies deformation allowed to justify and develop a method that allows to obtain non-contact information about changes in the stress-strain state in various types of geomaterials, including limestones. However, studies of the water saturation influence of rocks on the thermal radiation parameters recorded in this way are currently superficial. Taking into account the water saturation degree of rocks is necessary when monitoring the mechanical condition of stone structures that are in direct contact with water. The main purpose of this work is to study the dependences of changes in the intensity of thermal radiation from the surface of limestone samples with different humidity under conditions of uniaxial compression. The obtained results showed the expected significant decrease in the mechanical properties (uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus) of water-saturated samples in comparison with dry ones. At the same time, a significant increase in the intensity of thermal radiation of limestone samples subjected to compression with an increase in their water saturation was recorded, which makes it necessary to take into account the revealed regularity when identifying changes in the stress state of stone structures established according to non-contact IR diagnostics in real conditions.

Vibrodiagnostics of the technical state slurry pumps

Article preview

Analysis of the work hydrotransport systems in processing plants shows that the efficiency of this type transport does not match its technical capabilities: the high laboriousness involved in the operation of the equipment, high hydroabrasive wear of slurry pumps and pipelines, low working life pumps, high metal consumption and energy. The main reason for the lack of effectiveness of hydraulic transport is hydroabrasive wear impellers of slurry pumps, causing rising levels of vibra-tion pumps, reducing the pressure characteristics, general technical state of hydrotransport system and as a result - low pumps life, not exceeding 500 hours of continuous operation. In paper, it is shown that as a criterion of period normal operation slurry pump can be used coefficient of techni-cal state, the value of which is proportional to the relative head, degree of hydroabrasive wear of the impeller and time of continuous operating. The coefficient technical state of slurry pump can be represented as a function of current flow rate and the RMS value of vibration velocity. The re-sults of theoretical and experimental studies used to develop algorithms and techniques express-diagnosis and monitoring of slurry pumps in hydrotransport system, data which indicate the need for routine maintenance of pumping equipment.

Ion velocity distribution function in arbitrary electric field plasma

Article preview

Experimental investigations of the ion velocity distribution function (IVDF) are of great importance to various kinds of application: plasma nanotechnology, surface treatment, nanoelectronics, etching processes et al. In this paper, we propose a new probe method for diagnostics of anisotropic IVDF. The possibilities of the method have been demonstrated in arbitrary electric field plasma under conditions when an ion acquires a velocity on its mean free path comparable with the average thermal velocity of atoms. The energy and angular dependency of seven IVDF Legendre components for He + in He and Ar + in Ar have been measured and polar diagrams of the ion motion have been plotted. In order to verify the reliability and accuracy of the method the analytic solution of the kinetic Boltzmann equation for ions in plasma of their own gas has been found. Conditions under which resonant charge exchange is the dominant process and the ambipolar field is arbitrary have been considered. For the ambipolar field the dependence of resonant charge cross-section on the relative velocity has been taken into account. It is shown that the form of the IVDF is significantly different from the Maxwellian distribution and defined by two parameters. The results of theoretical and experimental data taking into account the instrumental function of the probe method are in good agreement. Calculations of the drift velocity of Hg + ions in Hg, He + in He, Ar + in Ar, and mobility of N 2 + in N 2 are well matched with known experimental data in wide range of electric field values.

Modern magnetic quality monitoring and the forecast of the technical condition of engineering constructions

Article preview

On terrain of Russia act a system of mains by a general expansion more than 200 thousand km. More than halves oil and gas pipelines are in exploitation 25-35 years, i.e. demand immediate repeated examination and conforming preventive maintenance. Intraube magnetic or the ultrasonic flaw detection for these purposes is not always possible and is dear enough, therefore last years a urgency of application of remote geophysical methods has increased at service oil and gaspipeline of the transport sharply. These methods are express enough and more economic.
