Explanation and development of new equipment for drilling rat holes in multilateral wells

Article preview

The research has been carried out to improve technologies and equipment for drilling multilateral wells constructions to create the most feasible well spacing. To prove the idea testing technical features of shaped tube ability to take its initial shape due to the action of inner and outer liquid pressure the investigation has been carried out. The tests have shown the capability of cramp iron to be reused for fastening whipstock inside the well with its following extracting.

Procedures and techniques for operation of the new automatic core orientator

Article preview

The most similar prototype models of foreign and domestic core orientators have been analyzed, and a model of a new automatic core orientator created by the author is presented. It provides continuous drawing of three lines on1,5 metercore surface section by diamond cutters in borehole drilling, secures accurate core orientation, decrease in time and general costs of this work.

Mechanism of artificial well curvature by continuous sliding deviators

Article preview

The mechanism of artificial borehole deviation by sliding whipstocks continuous action, based on destruction of a borehole wall during its lateral milling by displacing bit under action of arising rejecting effort. For a smooth set of deviation it is offered to adjust rejecting effort and for achievement of the maximum angle – to adjust frequency of bit rotation.

Regularities of natural curvature of boreholes

Article preview

The complex geological structure of the Bakal area causes intensive zenith and azimuthal curvatures of core drilling wells, which reduces the quality of geological documentation, worsens drilling conditions and increases the cost of drilling operations. From the analysis and generalization of data on curvature of a large number of core drilling wells some regularities of their natural curvature are established. Using the established regularities, it is possible to carry out more accurate and directed string wells. The geological structure of the area includes rocks of the Bakalskaya, Zigalginskaya and Zigazino-Komarovskaya formations. Stratigraphic and lithological characteristics of the main rocks of these formations are as follows (section from top to bottom).

Factors influencing the borehole curvature

Article preview

Well curvature, i.e. deviation of the well axis from its design profile, is a highly undesirable phenomenon that often leads to failure of the drilled well to fulfill its geological tasks and brings great losses to the national economy. Therefore, the identification and study of all factors affecting the curvature of core wells is an urgent and important issue.
