Anthropogenic methane and nitrous oxide emissions in Russia in 1950-2000

Article preview

A generalized methodology for calculating methane and nitrous oxide emissions from anthropogenic sources characteristic of the Russian economy was developed. The volumes of emissions of these gases in the energy sector, industry, agriculture, and forestry on the territory of Russia for the period 1950-2000 were calculated.

Use of data from satellite monitoring of planetary atmospheric composition to quantify nitrogen oxide emissions

Article preview

Based on GOME satellite data on N02 distribution in the troposphere, the anthropogenic emission of nitrogen oxides in Russia in 2000 was estimated. The obtained value of 4 million tons agrees well with the value calculated from energy consumption data, which allows using space monitoring to substantiate emission inventories.
