Variability and heterogeneity of the physical-mechanical properties of the latest marine sediments in the Arctic ocean

Article preview

The engineering-geological position reveals the peculiarities of structure and physical-mechanical properties of bottom soil of the Barents and Kara seas. Consider the conditions for the formation of the latest sediments, their relationship with the repeated freezing and defrosting during the late Cenozoic, the peculiarities of polar lithogenesis. Regional  factors of variability  and features of variability of the physical-mechanical properties of bottom soil with depth are shown. Conclusions are made about the ambiguous influence of the historical-geological factors  on physical-mechanical properties of soils. The role of soils, containing submarine gas hydrates, is shown.

Characteristics of 2D- and 3D-potential field anomaly interpretation

Article preview

This paper contains methods of gravity and magnetic data processing with evaluation of effective density and magnetic intensity of rocks. The most preferred method of 3D-processing so as to create three dimensional models of gravity and magnetic distribution is that one which count gravity and magnetic fields around a circle near the calculation point. It is highly effectively to use this method if there are some isometric objects. This algorithm leads to a geometry distortion of the resulting objects and a marked increase in predicted depth if examined bodies are twodimensional and overlie horizontal or aslope. This might cause errors in data interpretation.

Технология прогнозно-поисковых работ на сульфидные медно-никелевые руды с металлами платиновой группы

Article preview

Impact of cell phone antenna electromagnetic radiation on the user

Article preview

Electromagnetic radiation when using cellular phones can have a negative impact on humans. Studies of radiation types on a multilayer model of the human head made it possible to compile a program and perform numerical calculations.

Modern requirements for hydrochemical sampling of observation wells during hydrogeological research and groundwater monitoring

Article preview

Modern requirements for hydrochemical sampling of observation wells in the performance of hydrogeological research and groundwater monitoring are given. When sampling observation wells is recommended to pump out not less than 40 volumes of water from the borehole with a submersible pump. For determination of inorganic substances it is recommended to use complex mass-spectral and atomic emission analyses with inductively coupled plasma for 72 elements, which will allow to reject the results of analyses for which the conventional methods (with the sensitivity limit, close to the MAC) revealed exceeding the existing standards, for example for Cd, Li, Be.
