Submission Guidelines for the Journal of Mining Institute

The article submitted to the Editorial platform must correspond to the thematic sections of the Journal of Mining Institute, contain original scientific results, and be formatted according to these guidelines. Articles must have no more than three authors with an academic degree. Postgraduate students may be co-authors of the article. The Journal does not publish articles whose co-authors are students, including master’s degree students.

Simultaneously, the Editorial Board considers up to two articles by a single author/group of authors, which, if both are accepted, will be published with an interval of at least three volumes.

Authors prepare the article text with all elements (metadata, author information, text, reference list, funding, acknowledgements) in the Microsoft Word text editor. To ensure double-blind peer review, an editor independently conceals author information before sending articles to experts.

For the correct formatting of an article, it is recommended to use the article template. The recommended article length is 3,400-8,000 words (the length is calculated for the entire article, including all article elements). An article may be one of the following types: original articles containing original information on a particular scientific problem; review articles,reflecting global experience in the research of a specific scientific problem; articles on the implementation of research results into production facilities (case study).

The authors of the article adhere to publication ethics and are responsible for the absence of plagiarism (unfair citation) and falsification of research results in the article, guarantee the reliability and reproducibility of the research results according to the methodologies presented in the article.
The originality of the text must be no less than 85 %; the article must not contain previously published illustrations or tables. An editor independently conducts an examination of the articles for the presence of borrowings. The authors also guarantee that the materials of the article have not been submitted for publication to other journals (in any language).

In addition to the article text, authors must attach:

a cover letter and
a document from the affiliated organisation confirming the possibility of publishing the article in open access.

The cover letter must specify the contribution of each author to the work on the article. Authors are individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the research and/or writing of the article. Individuals who assisted in the work but did not make a significant contribution may be listed in the “Acknowledgements” section of the article text.

The article, cover letter, and document confirming the possibility of open publication should be submitted to the editorial platform electronically via the submission form on the Journal’s website. Should any questions arise, please contact us.

Article Components

METADATA

Article Title

The article title must be informative and provide a complete and accurate representation of the article’s content.

Only commonly accepted abbreviations are permitted.

The Editorial Board recommends formulating the title so that its length does not exceed 12 words.

Authors Information

Full last name, first name, second name (if any), academic degree, academic title (if applicable), position, full name of the affiliated organisation, city, country, and ORCID are to be indicated.

Attention! Editors anonymise the articles for blind review independently!

Abstract

An abstract is a concise summary of the article that retains its structure. To be informative for the reader and to increase citations, the abstract should contain information on the relevance/current state of research on the problem, the aim and objectives of the study, key factual data and research methods, and main conclusions. The recommended length is 200-250 words.

Keywords

5-10 words, reflecting the main subjects/objects/processes discussed in the article. Phrases longer than three words are not permitted.

Funding information

Indication of research funding, if applicable.

IMRAD STRUCTURE OF AN ARTICLE

Introduction

The Introduction typically contains a brief overview of global publications confirming the relevance and scientific novelty of the material. The aims and objectives of the research are also formulated here.

Methods

The section should contain a detailed description of the research methods, specification of participants, materials (raw materials, reagents, etc.), and procedures. The methodology should be presented in such a way that other researchers can replicate the study. If the experiment is based on a previously published methodology, a reference to the corresponding publication should be provided.

Results Discussion

The section contains the results obtained by the authors, a comparison with the results of other researchers (if applicable), and analysis (interpretation). Typically, this is where tables, graphs, diagrams, equations, models, etc., are presented. It is permissible to have separate sections for “Results” and “Discussion of Results”.

Conclusion

The Conclusion summarises the work undertaken and formulates the findings. The findings should correlate with the objectives set at the beginning of the article. Additionally, it may indicate the practical significance of the research, as well as the direction for future studies.

Acknowledgements

This section expresses gratitude to specific individuals who assisted the author (-s).

References

In the text, a reference to a source is indicated as [1]; references can be combined into a block: [1, 2, 3] or [1-3]; they are placed in order of mention. No more than three sources are permitted in a block.
The reference list is provided as a separate section. The source descriptions are arranged similarly to the citations – in order of mention.
The number of references for a research article is no less than 35 and no more than 50. For a review article, the maximum number of references is 80.
The maximum share of self-citation is no more than 10 %.
The majority of literary sources should be no older than 5 years; sources older than 10 years are considered outdated.
Only scientific sources. are permitted in the list. Non-scientific publications (for example, regulatory documents, references to websites and auxiliary programmes) are indicated within the text — in round brackets in the text or in footnotes below it. In the description, authors’ names are indicated without spaces between initials and are highlighted in italics.
The names of publishers, journals, and sources are given in full, without abbreviations.
Volume, issue, and number are distinguished from each other. Their intermixing is not permitted.
The page count/page range must be indicated (if the article has a number, it should be specified).
The DOI code (www.doi.org) must be indicated if available. For older publications (especially those prior to the 2000s), a URL is provided if the source is available online.
Electronic sources are described similarly to printed ones, with the access URL and date of access indicated.

FORMATTING OF PARTICULAR TEXT ELEMENTS

Figures

The maximum number of figures is 7.

All figures must be included within the text. They must be clear (resolution of at least 300 dpi), and the labels, designations, and symbols on them must be easily distinguishable.

The language of the labels and the language of the article must match.

For the HTML version of the article, there is an option to place additional graphical, animated, or tabular materials (such as modelling results from specialised software; video recordings of experiments (parameters: 640x480 in .webm format; size 0,3-0,5 MB); large reference tables, and other materials), which can be formatted as an appendix. Such supplementary data must be sent as separate files. The article text must indicate the presence of supplementary files (appendices).

Authors may, at their discretion, prepare a graphical abstract – an image that can provide a visual representation of the article’s essence (objectives, methods, key results, and conclusions). The graphical abstract must be submitted as a separate file in the source format.

Tables

The maximum number of tables is 7.

All tables must also be included within the text. If tables are voluminous and relate to the article text as supplementary/reference material, they can be placed as an appendix to the article (see “Figures” above). If tables are horizontally oriented, they are inserted into the article text using section breaks.

Tables must be numbered using Arabic numerals. Each table must have a title and a reference in the text (for example, Table 1).

Formulae

They are typeset in the MathType or Microsoft Equation formula editor. Inserting formulae as images into the text is not permitted.

Simple inline formulae or individual symbols should not be typeset in the formula editor: Latin letters are inserted from the keyboard, Greek letters and some mathematical symbols should be taken from the Insert → Symbols menu.

Latin letters used to denote quantities (symbols) are typeset in italics; Russian and Greek letters (within the formula itself and in indices) – in upright font; abbreviated mathematical terms (sin, cos, lg, lim, max, etc.) – in upright font.

Physical Units and Indications

All units of measurement in the article must correspond to the International System of Units for the given field of science; when naming chemical compounds, it is advisable to use IUPAC terminology.

Article Publication Timelines

The general (average) timeline for article publication in the journal is 6-9 months..

The timelines for peer review depend on the experts’ agreement to provide comprehensive reviews. Typically, reviews are prepared within approximately 3 weeks, provided the specialist agrees to conduct the review (this period may be extended during the summer months). After receiving at least two comprehensive peer reviews, a decision on publication or withdrawal of the article from consideration is made by the Editorial Board and then by the Editor-in-Chief.

Upon approval for publication, the article is forwarded for editing and undergoes pre-press preparation (translation of the final version, translation verification, then proofreading, layout, and the authors approving).

The author is informed of the results of each stage of the editorial and publishing process via discussions in the article on the Journal’s editorial platform (additional notification to authors upon request is also possible).

Cost of Publication

In accordance with the Regulations of the Journal of Mining Institute, the Publishing House organises peer review of articles, edits, assigns EDN, prints, posts on the Journal’s website and in information databases free of charge.

Possible reasons for article withdrawal from consideration

The content of the article does not correspond to the Journal’s thematic scope.
The originality of the article is less than 85 %.
Non-compliance with 5 or more points of the requirements set by the Journal of Mining Institute Rules for submitted articles.
The authors do not respond to the editorial letters for more than 1 month.
None of the article’s authors hold an academic degree; the article’s authors include students.
The reference list is insufficiently comprehensive and does not reflect global experience on the research topic.
Negative peer reviews.
Decision of the Editorial Board.

Article Submission Checklist

Before submitting the article to the Journal’s website, authors must verify its compliance with the editorial requirements. If the proposed article does not meet these requirements, it will be withdrawn from consideration.

The article thematically corresponds to one of the Journal’s four sections): Geology, Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology, Economic Geology, Energy.
The article is formatted according to the template and has a cover letter and a document confirming the possibility of its open publication.
One or more authors hold an academic degree.
The text complies with all requirements for scientific articles described in the Guidelines for Authors
The reference list is formatted in accordance with the requirements; for cited articles, DOI or URL is provided.
When working on the article, recent scientific sources from Scopus/Web of Science databases were analysed.
The material of the article is original, has not been published previously, and has not been submitted for consideration and publication to another journal.
The article does not contain improper borrowings and/or an excessive proportion of self-citation (more than 30 %).
The article is checked for compliance with requirements listed here – before submission, the editorial board recommends self-checking to reduce processing time.
