Peculiarities of kinematics of rock mass shear during development of subseismic-scale faults
- Authors:
- A. V. Merzlikin
- L. N. Zakharova
The article describes the mechanism of formation and development of subseismic-scale faults in sedimentary rock mass based on results of physical and mathematical simulation. Physical modelling of layered rock massif was carried out by using sand-gypsum mixture. The results of physical modeling made it possible to visually evaluate the process of formation and development of subseismic-scale faults, to establish the orientation and amplitude of the modeled faults. It was established that faults with higher amplitude had filler material formed because of friction of fault edges/walls. The volume of modelled formation after formation of faults depending on fault amplitudes changed from 2-3 to 10 %. To gain information on stress deformed condition of rock massif and identification of key peculiarities of fault propagation dynamics we used the mathematical modeling based on particle-flow algorithm. The results of mathematical modeling determined that during formation of low amplitude faults the shear field has several rock clusters. Due to interaction of clusters, which have coordinated movement and promote massif loosening, the rock mass accumulates voids, which are the prerequisite for formation of subseismic-scale faults. The gained results enable to specify the complex mechanism of irreversible shears and deformations of rock mass during formation and development of subseismic-scale faults. It contributes to the improvement of the methodology for predicting the SSF parameters, which is of practical importance in terms of reducing mining risks.

Major trends in efficiency upgrading of the economic activity in the Arctic zone of Russian Federation
Organization of efficient economic activity in the Arctic zone requires development of human potential, transport infrastructure, exploitation of natural resources under the conditions of greatest possible environmental safety. In order to choose preferable trends of economic development and to provide efficiency of operations in the Arctic zone it is crucial to perform research in the areas of industrial efficiency upgrading and rational use of fuel, energy, mineral, chemical and biological resources of the Ocean and littoral areas of Russian Arctic. The paper analyzes major trends in the research on increasing economic efficiency of operations aimed at territory development in the Arctic zone. The authors justify the need to examine economic problems of rational resource use in the Arctic zone of Russia based on the proposed system of resource-estimation indicators and their application in establishing a mechanism of rational resource use with a due regard to protection of the marine environment. The paper also focuses on methodological problems of the target programme approach to complex development of the Arctic zone, creation of target programmes, industrial development and rational use of natural resources. The authors give rationale for the key task in this area – development of methodological principles of forming federal and regional target programmes, aimed at exploration, exploitation and rational use of natural resources in the Arctic zone of Russian Federation. An analysis is provided that focuses on the problems of creating a scientifically justified hierarchical system of programmes and regional regulations, creation of a scientific information data bank and other methodological issues.

Key directions in processing carbonaceous rocks
- Authors:
- T. N. Aleksandrova
Mathematical statistics techniques and the data from laboratory mineral and technological studies of samples were used to identify the most common natural and technological associations of microelements in carbonaceous rocks which could be of industrial value if extracted in the form of commercial products. The discovered structures of spheroidal and ring ferrocarbonaceous clusters are respective formations of the class of metal fullerens with expressed magnetic properties. Such clusters may serve as construction blocks for new magnetic structures since each of them is a separate magnetic domain. Extracting such structures and their practical use opens the way to future technologies. It is expected to employ such results in the future in the course of designing new techniques and technologies for benefication of carbonaceous raw materials while developing comprehensively solid mineral resources in the mining industry regions of Russia.

Problems development of the offshore oil and gas fields deposits
- Authors:
- V. M. Vasiltsova
Based on the fact that the development of offshore fields that contain huge reserves of hy-drocarbons, is a key area to overcome the negative trends in the oil and gas industry. The article identifies ways to improve the organization and management of the development of the Arctic shelf from a methodological and practical point of view. Three groups of problems of increase of efficiency of interaction of oil and gas companies to governments and companies from other countries: 1) Institutional (taxation, production sharing agreements, concession regime and others.); investment (extension of the list of investment risks and methodical study of their principles); innovation (creation of a new generation of oil and gas equipment, marine oil and gas innova-tion clusters) and the ways to solve them.

Ingineering geological problems of high-rise construction with underground space development in Saint-Petersburg
- Authors:
- R. E. Dashko
- A. M. Zhukova
The history of high-rise construction is considered summarily. The main features of high-rise buildings and difficulties connected with theirs engineering and construction especially with underground space development and deep excavations in soft water saturated soils are characterized. Territorial construction guides «Residential and social high-rise buildings» prevail in Saint-Petersburg are analyzed in the context of recommendations for reliable basement choice. Brief description of Pre-Quanernary clays (Upper Vendian clays and Lower Cambrian clays) as basement for high-rise constructions are given. It is placed emphasis that the main feature of Pre-Quaternary clays is zone sequence of physical and mechanical properties and fissuring in depth. Physical and mechanical properties of Upper Vendian clays, Lower Cambrian clays and glacial clays are given. In addition, it is confirmed that glacial soils is not recommended to use as a basement for high-rise buildings.
