Focus and Scope
The main mission of the journal is: to support the development of innovative, fundamental and applied research in the field of mining geology, engineering and economic sciences and to promote achieved research findings to the national and global scientific, educational and economic environment; to improve quality of training specialists for mining sector and for the development of mineral resources complex in agreement with the Russian state strategy and worldwide science and higher professional education development trends.
Journal objectives:
- publication of articles containing results of original open research (theoretical and experimental) works, research-and-practical and innovative activities of faculty members and research scientists of universities and scientific organizations of Russia, near and far-abroad countries of mining-and-geological, technical, economic profiles;
- development of open scientific dispute that promotes further improvement of quality and efficiency of scientific research, streamlining of scientific works evaluation;
- ensuring publicity of the process and work results of various research groups, schools of sciences and providing Russian and foreign scientists with maximum access to them;
- promotion of scientific achievements of mining-and-geological, technical and economic profiles in Russia and abroad;
- identification of intellecutual asstes of Russian and foreign universities academia, research centers and top companies of mineral resources sector for implementation of advanced research into educational process;
- reproduction and development of scientific traditions, research schools and ensuring their integration into research in mining-and-geological, ecological, economic, engineering fields;
- assistance in modernization of specialized education for training specialists for a mineral raw materials sector in line with the main trends and challenges of our times.
Sections journal
- Geology
This section is presented by leading scientists and embodies major scientific fields of geologic study such as: petrology; geochemistry and geochemical methods of mineral prospecting; mineralogy and crystallography; general and regional geology; geotectonics and geodynamics; hydrogeology. All of the above explore composition, structure, origin and history of the development of the earth's crust and the Earth on the whole
- Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology
This section focuses on the issues of subsoil use; geomechanics and mining; prospecting and extraction of minerals, including oil, gas and coal; geophysics and geodesy; aspects of geological exploration, construction and operation of mining structures, such as wells; mineral processing. Labor protection issues such as the impact of production factors and consequences of survey and exploration works on the human body and geoecology are also taken into consideration
- Economic Geology
This section includes articles devoted to solving urgent economic problems of the functioning of the mining and fuel and energy industries. The section is open to a wide range of topics; however, any submission should have aspects of scientific novelty and practical relevance, both of which should contribute to the development of a methodology for managing national raw materials, as well as contribute to sustainable development of different branches of industry
- Energy
This section is devoted to fundamental and applied research in the field of energy efficiency and energy saving in the mining sector at the stage of operation of enterprises and devices, and includes newly proposed efficiency criteria. It covers a wide range of research topics in the following areas: assessment of enterprises along with modern ways to increase heat and power efficiency and also energy saving; control automation of energy systems and devices; development of new evaluation criteria and more energy-efficient devices; diagnostics of energy consumers
Peer Review Process
Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two leading experts in the area of research. All reviewers are acknowledged experts in the areas of reviewed materials and have 3 recent publications in the subject area of refereed article.
Publication Frequency
The periodicity of publishing is 6 volumes per year.
Open Access Policy
The journal «Zapiski Gornogo Instituta / Journal of Mining Institute» provides public access to its content and to full-text articles following the principle:free public access to research findings contributes to the increase of global exchange of knowledge.
The Journal publishes the materials on the basis of Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This means that it is possible to read, download, copy, distribute, print the articles and make reference to the full-text articles with attri -bution without any restrictions.
What is permitted:
- to share (exchange) - copy and distribute the material in any medium and in any format;
- adapt (create derivative works) - remix, modify and create new, basing on this material for any purposes, including commercial ones;
- licensor may not revoke these freedoms as long as you perform the license conditions.
Under the following conditions: «Attribution» — You must ensure the appropriate attribution, provide a link to the license and identify changes if any have been made. Publication ethics
The Editorial Board of «Zapiski Gornogo Instituta / Journal of Mining Institute» follows the conventional ethical principles for scientific periodicals and guidelines of the Publication Ethics Code developed and approved by the Committee on Publication Ethics (Committee on Publication Ethics – COPE), and demands that all those involved in publishing operation should observe these rules.
Authorship
The Journal of Mining Institute works exclusively with the authors of articles. Articles provided through intermediaries are not accepted. Discussion of the editorial and publishing process with persons who are not part of the authors’ collective is not allowed.
Changes in the composition of authors’ team are possible only at the stages of primary revision and review, when a radical revision of the material is necessary (for example, the inclusion of data provided by other persons; the exclusion of data provided by one of the authors). In such cases, the authors should provide the editors with a written justification, certified by the signatures of all persons involved, including the authors being included or excluded.
In order to qualify for authorship of a manuscript, the following criteria should be observed:
- Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content
- Final approval of the version to be published
Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.The right of authorship belongs to the authors of the articles. Non-exclusive rights to use the materials of the Journal of Mining Institute belong to Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University as its founder and publisher (author agreement is provided upon request to the editorial board). Complete or partial borrowing of the materials requires a mandatory reference to the journal's imprint and indication of the copyright holder and the names of article authors. When creating new materials based on the articles published in the journal, citing or translating article fragments for the purpose of citing, it is necessary to refer to the original sources in accordance with the citation rules.
Authors who publish their work in the Journal of Mining Institute agree to the following terms:
- Authors reserve the copyright for their articles and transfer the right of the first publication to the journal together with the article, while simultaneously licensing the paper under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0) terms and conditions. The license permits to copy and distribute the content in any media and format, adapt it (make remixes, modify and create new materials on its basis) for any purposes, including commercial ones, with a mandatory reference to the original source
- Authors can keep and distribute pre-print, post-print and published version of the article
- Authors agree to literary editing of the article by the editorial board of the journal and layout according to the current rules and regulations
Ethics of Authors
The editorial board of the Journal of Mining Institute expects authors to comply with the ethical standards, recommended by the Publication Ethics Committee:
- Published research must be conducted in accordance with ethical and legal standards
- The results of the work must be presented in a clear and honest manner, without falsifications and data manipulation
- Authors should carefully check all their calculations, data representations, documentation and evidence they generate
- Authors must comply with applicable conventions and laws regarding authors’ rights. Material protected under the authors’ rights (e.g., tables, figures, or large citations) may only be reproduced with the permission of its owner. Direct citations from the work of other researchers should be put in quotation marks and properly referenced
- Authorship of a research article must accurately reflect the contributions of individual authors. Researchers must ensure that only those individuals who meet the criteria for authorship (i.e., who have made significant contribution to the work) are considered authors and that researchers who deserve authorship are not excluded from the list of authors
- Authors should not copy references from other publications in case they have not acquainted themselves with those sources
- New findings should be presented in the context of previous research. The work of other scientists should be properly addressed
- Sources of funding and potential conflicts associated with them should be disclosed
Conflict of interests
When evaluating a manuscript, the Editorial Board seeks to prevent conflicts of interest between its members, reviewers, the journal's publishers and authors.
Experts should not be involved in reviewing the works if there is a conflict of interest due to competitive relations, cooperation or other interactions or relations with authors, companies or institutions in any manner connected with the submitted materials. In the event of any conflict of interest that precludes independent assessment of the manuscript, the persons concerned must take their own discretion by transferring their authority to make decisions to another member of the Editorial Board or to a certain reviewer.
The presence of a conflict of interest, declared by one of the participants of the review process, does not in itself lead to a refusal to publish, since the most important criterion for evaluating the manuscript is its scientific quality.
Unpublished materials available in the presented study may not be used by the Editorial Board in their own developments without the written consent of the author. Such information is not disclosed and may not be used by the reviewers, members of the Editorial Board, the editorial staff of the journal for the purpose of obtaining personal benefits.
An article is placed in public domain in case of acceptance for publication. If there is a suspicion of a conflict of interest after publication, the editors of the Zapiski Gornogo Instituta / Journal of Mining Institute act in accordance with the COPE’s recommendations:
Borrowing and Plagiarism
he Editorial Board of the Journal checks the articles for uniqueness using the service "Antiplagiat.VUZ". Before sending it to the Journal, the author must evaluate the uniqueness of the article using the specified or another service and make sure that the data presented in the work are original, all cited materials from other authors are accompanied by links to the original sources and are included in the list of references, there is no illegal borrowing, verbatim and indirect quotations are drawn up correctly, etc. The originality of the manuscript must be at least 85%. Fragments of the borrowed text without specifying the original source are unacceptable.

M .: Nauka, 2017. 159 p., as well as in "Brief Recommendations for Authors on the Preparation and Formatting of Scientific Articles in Journals Indexed in International Scientometric Databases" (p. 8), prepared with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
The author should understand that his or her research career may suffer if plagiarism is detected and the article is retracted.
With regard to the borrowings, the editors act in accordance with COPE recommendations:
Retraction (recall) of articles
Articles with multiple publications, inaccurate information or infringement of authorship (plagiarism) will be retracted from the journal. If suspicions of incorrect ethical behavior are found, the author is invited to explain the situation that is being considered at the Editorial Board; a decision is made and approved by the minutes of the meeting. Then the information on retracted articles is posted in the Journal's archive, transferred to the Ethics Council (ANRI), posted in the retracted articles Database, in all libraries, databases where the publication of the Journal is located, to make an appropriate note indicating the reason and date of recall.
Penalties for Violation of Publication Ethics
The editorial board of the Journal of Mining Institute recognizes the following types of publication ethics violations and associated penalties:
- Incorrect borrowing (plagiarism) - retraction of the article if it was published and a 5-year ban on publication in the Journal of Mining Institute
- Duplicate submission, duplication of articles - retraction of the article and a 3-year ban on publication in the Journal of Mining Institute
- Authorship manipulation - a 2-year ban on publication in the Journal of Mining Institute
- Responsibility for disclosure of financial and personal relationships that affect the results of research/review/publication - a 1-year ban on publication in the Journal of Mining Institute
- Data forgery (use of references that are not related to the research topic) - a 1-year ban on publication in the Journal of Mining Institute
