Philologist’s day

Abstract

The Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University places a strong emphasis on the comprehensive development of its students. Modern engineering extends far beyond purely technical tasks; the humanities, including foreign languages, therefore play a vital role in educating highly skilled professionals. This digest features articles on linguistics, literary studies, librarianship, and the theory and practice of foreign language teaching. It also provides additional information on the properties and uses of several minerals, as well as the etymology of their names. The release of the digest coincides with Philologist’s Day, celebrated annually in Russia on May 25. The holiday was first observed in 1989, at the initiative of faculty and students of Moscow State University.
