Abstract

Displacements of earth masses, called landslides, are very widespread on the territory of Georgia. There is almost no region where landslide phenomena do not cause harm to the national economy, annually destroying tens of thousands of hectares of arable land and pastures, forests, and railways and highways. The most characteristic is the landslide region of the Kakheti Range – the watershed of the Iori and Alazani valleys. The northern part of the region starts from Mount Borbala and extends meridionally across the fold structures of the Greater Caucasus. The southern part – the Tsiv Gombori ridge – starts from Akhmeta village and runs parallel to the general Caucasian strike of the folds ...
