Illumination in open pits and accidents

Despite a significant decrease in recent years, the number of accidents in open-pit mining operations still remains high. A study of this issue at a number of quarries in the Southern Urals, Uzbekistan and the Central region showed that the injury rate at night is significantly higher than during the day, and the nature of accidents largely depends on illumination. Thus, over the last seven years at the Sibay quarry, 44.5% of all accidents occurred during the dark hours, at the Blyavinsky quarry – 45%, at the YuGOK quarry – 33%, at the Lebedinsky quarry – 32%, at the Kurgashinkan – 28% ...
