The necessity to take into account fundamental trends in the development of nature in natural science research

Article preview

Many natural science studies do not take into account two interrelated fundamental trends - directionality and repeatability. In this connection, the author of the article puts forward the hypothesis that geological cycles should be characterized by a tendency to increase their duration. This is confirmed by large-scale variations in the duration of the established cycles, as well as by the analysis of Phanerozoic boreal transgressions on the territory of Russia.

Spatial and temporal content of rock-layer boundaries

Article preview

In the case of mutational layering, the layered boundaries of sedimentary strata act as either spatial or temporal boundaries. In the case of mutation layering, these boundaries contain spatial and temporal information. It is shown that when considering the migration mechanism of layering formation against the background of different sedimentation regimes, the same boundary can be transformed into temporal, spatial, and spatial-temporal boundaries.

Layer boundaries as spatial-temporal formations

Article preview

The change of layers in sections of sedimentary strata, as it is known, is evidence of the change of conditions of sedimentation. At the same time, the boundaries between the layers may have varying degrees of expression.

On the relationship between stratigraphy and cyclostratigraphy

Article preview

The question of the meaningful connection and relationship between stratigraphy and cyclostratigraphy arose with new vigor in the 1970s as a result of the successful development of sedimentary cyclicity.

Partitioning of Quaternary sediments of the Kaliningrad region by material composition

Article preview

The problem of reliable dissection of Quaternary sediments in the north-west of the European territory of the USSR has become particularly acute in connection with the search for construction raw materials and the expansion of reclamation works .....

From power scale to time scale

Article preview

The reconstruction of the history of sedimentation processes is invariably based on the analysis of the composition, structure and correlation of rocks composing geological sections. For such an analysis, a convenient and currently accepted form of depiction is the construction of geologic sections in the scale of thickness of layers.

On formalization of geological sections for the purposes of harmonic analysis

Article preview

Conversion of geologic sections from the power scale to the time scale opens up the possibility of applying harmonic analysis to reveal periods of the still large cyclicity of sedimentation processes. At the same time, such an analysis of geological sections is impossible without representing them in the form of periodic curves, i.e., without their formalization.
