Abstract

Due to the development of industry in the 1970s and the demand for chemical raw materials, the exploitation of the salt deposit near Kraków began with the borehole method. Mining operations in a very complex geological area with a change in the exploitation system led subsequently to the formation of a system of connected chambers, disturbance of hydrogeological conditions in the borehole, phenomena of land surface subsidence and other types of deformations. The characteristics of the exploitation of the salt deposit, the volume of extraction, as well as its consequences are presented.
