Abstract
Oil, coal and gas are currently the main energy resources in the world. However, their reserves are not unlimited and are rapidly decreasing. Under these conditions, the problem of energy saving becomes acute, which can be solved by using wind energy as a source of energy. Wind energy can be utilized by means of wind power plants. The article deals with the peculiarities of wind generators application. Brief descriptions of wind power plants developed by teachers and students of the G.V. Plekhanov Leningrad Mining Institute together with employees of the St. Petersburg Institute of Mechanical Engineering are given.
