Changes in clayey rocks during weathering

Abstract
Under the influence of weathering agents, the state, composition and properties of clayey rocks can change significantly. Naturally, in different types of clayey rocks these changes are manifested differently, depending on the composition, degree of lithification, conditions of occurrence, different geochemical conditions of existence of rocks in the bowels of the earth and prevailing in its near-surface horizons. When solving construction problems, any changes in the strength and stability of clayey rocks during weathering are of great importance and should be taken into account.
