The 8th International Arctic Summit "Arctic: Prospects, Innovations and Regional Development" (Arctic Summit 2024) will be held on May 22-24 in the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg. The Summit is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is celebrated in Russia in 2024. As part of the Summit, a ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Arctic Academy of Sciences will be held.
The summit will be held on May 22, 2024 at the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI), which is one of the leading technical universities in Russia, and on May 23-24, 2024 at the St. Petersburg University of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (SPb GPS), the first in Russia and one of the first educational institutions of fire-fighting and technical profile in Europe.
The summit is organized by the Arctic Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly jointly with the Arctic Academy of Sciences, the Energy and Civil Society Association, and the Institute of Arctic Oil and Gas Technologies of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, in partnership with the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) and the Russian State Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic, with the support of the St. Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs, the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia, the National Association of Oil and Gas Service, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Union of Cities of the Arctic and Far North, the Composite Cluster of St. Petersburg Association, the Scientific Expert Council for the Northwestern Federal District of the Working Group on Energy of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, MIEP MGIMO, MFO "Institute of Engineering Physics", the MKS Group of Companies, as well as leading organizations in the Arctic sector. The operator of the Summit is Prognoz-Nord LLC.
The Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of March 5, 2020 N 164 "On the Fundamentals of the State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic for the Period up to 2035" covers a set of the most important issues on the effective implementation of the new state policy of the vast and unique region, which is the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. Polar Explorer Day, which has been celebrated in Russia annually in May since 2013 in recognition of the merits of people working at the North and South Poles of the Earth. The Summit participants will get acquainted with a wide range of practical issues on modern innovative technologies, international cooperation, specific regional and industry programs, including current and long-term tasks adopted at the meetings of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin on the development of the Arctic zone of Russia (13.04.2022), Arctic cities and infrastructure in the Arctic zone (20.07.2023).
In order to develop the creative and scientific activity of Russian and foreign students and postgraduates of leading universities, a Competition of scientific research works aimed at sustainable development and exploration of the Arctic will be held within the framework of the Summit. The Special Partner of the Competition since 2023 is the Decade of Science and Technology (Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of 25.04.2022 No. 231). The prize fund of the Competition is formed by the partners of the Summit and the Paulsen publishing house, the only book publishing house in Russia specializing in the publication of documentary, fiction and popular science literature about the Arctic and Antarctic, and the main prize, named by the Summit Directorate "Polar Star", is provided by the Assembly of Peoples of Eurasia. The Summit will include an exhibition of highly effective technologies and developments of Russian and foreign organizations participating in the Summit, as well as an excursion to one of the leading enterprises of St. Petersburg and a cultural program.
Representatives of federal and regional structures, leading Russian and foreign oil and gas and energy companies, transport, financial, scientific, service organizations and the media are expected to participate in the Summit.
