Российский нефтегазовый технический конгресс прошёл в Москве

On October 29–31, 2024, representatives of oil, gas production, oilfield services companies, industry research institutes, government agencies, and the media gathered at the discussion and exhibition venues of the Russian Oil and Gas Technical Congress (RNTK).

One of the main goals of the RNTK Congress, as in previous years, was to create an informal, favorable atmosphere for meeting like-minded people, colleagues and business partners - for exchanging experiences, open discussions, debates, for the joint generation of new ideas and projects.

The agenda of the RNTK 2024 Congress included issues of the state of the industry, its sustainability, sovereignty and leadership, analysis of existing risks, forecasting of various strategies and scenarios. Participants see opportunities and incentives for further development. As examples and proposals, the participants cited bold technological solutions in the implementation of innovations, import substitution, or more precisely, in "import preemption" in the oil and gas complex of Russia.

The Program Committee of the event included leading experts from PJSC Gazprom Neft, PAO NK Rosneft, PAO NOVATEK, FAU ZapSibNIIGG, OOO RN-BashNIPIneft, TKSh, Burservis, Geosplit, Salym Petroleum Development, Tyumen Oil Research Center, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, and others.

This year, the RNTK Congress gathered more than 250 delegates in its halls. Some colleagues joined in the online broadcast mode. More than 120 reports were presented during the Plenary Session and technical sessions held simultaneously at three venues.

The program of the RNTK 2024 Congress included about twenty relevant topics, including field development, well construction, EOR, production intensification, digital technologies, modeling, personnel policy, professional education, etc. Some of the reports were devoted to new trends in the industry - prospects for decarbonization, alternative energy, the latest capabilities of artificial intelligence and augmented reality.

At the Plenary Session of the 2024 RNTK Congress, Pavel Bravkov, Center for Competence in Technological Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, outlined the main factors and metrics for assessing the effectiveness of the industry, including patent activity and the degree of readiness of technologies, the availability of materials and domestic equipment, machine tools, tools for various processing stages of hydrocarbon raw materials, their standardization, as well as science and personnel training, software.

Alexey Pestrikov, Rosneft, spoke about the methodology adopted by the company for developing interdisciplinary, science-intensive software, in which the flexibility of models, deep involvement of the development team and end users allow creating unique, rocket science software products. In addition, 10 of the 24 IT solutions being developed and already offered to the market in the line were presented at the company's stand.

Alexander Trusov, VK Tech Oil and Gas Solutions Center, continued with an overview of the industry's IT landscape, digital solutions and growth drivers, both in general and in particular those provided by VK Tech to its B2B partners. The cloud architecture of modern industrial digital platforms, both in private and public installations, provides the oil and gas industry with advantages in creating additional value along the entire production chain - from exploration, development, production, transportation, processing and sale to the consumer.

Irina Gaida, Energy Center of Skoltech Business School, supplemented the now how topic with achievements in the field of technologies used, materials science and equipment, in matters of current and future cooperation among market participants, which will allow the industry to develop from small, laboratory research to large-scale projects, for example, on the development of the Arctic, comparable in complexity to space ones. The speaker sees one of the most important steps as the education of a new generation of designers - a process that requires the participation of not only individual schools, but also the entire ecosystem of the industry as a whole.

Anton Ablaev, Skolkovo, presented several successful examples and practices of cluster residents, including a wide variety of companies – construction, repair, cementing of oil and gas wells, production of polymer thermal insulation coatings for oil refinery furnaces, creation of systems for visualization and monitoring of drilling processes, automated emergency protection systems, laser welding of pipes, and others. There are currently about 170 such unique commercial offers in Skolkovo.

At the Plenary Session of the Congress, during the Round Tables, when exchanging opinions, it was emphasized that the Russian oil and gas complex needs to accelerate its technological sovereignty. The industry faces the task of constantly and comprehensively increasing efficiency, because the resource base will only worsen and competition between countries will increase. Our industry needs new equipment, modernization of fixed assets, machine parks, materials, new labor organization, new methods of processing and storing information, and decision-making methods more than ever. In this regard, intra-industry cooperation, joint coordination councils, meetings, discussions, and development of joint decisions are necessary, including at large conference venues, such as the RNTK 2024 Congress.

The participants then divided into thematic sections:

  • Geology and geophysics of the field, exploration and testing of wells,
  • Development of oil and gas fields,
  • Hydraulic fracturing and EOR,
  • Well construction, drilling and well completion,
  • Digital technologies,
  • Geological, hydrodynamic and integrated modeling,
  • Hard-to-recover reserves,
  • Industrial safety, labor protection and the environment,
  • Commercial collection and preparation of products, production equipment and technologies,
  • Decarbonization, hydrogen industry, renewable energy sources,
  • Education, social and personnel policy.

On the last day of the Congress, participants had the opportunity to visit the Skoltech University Hydrocarbon Production Center as part of an organized field trip (excursion), where young entrepreneurs presented their ten most promising technology startups to the guests.

In general, the Russian Oil and Gas Technical Congress (RNTK Congress 2024) became a testament to the unanimity, cooperation, interaction and healthy rivalry in the Russian oil and gas industry. The high-tech oil and gas industry is expecting powerful structural shifts, large-scale transformations, in the face of which the participants are ready to share information, discuss, cooperate, and ready to create the future of Russian oil and gas together.

Industry experts will gather again at the Russian Oil and Gas Technology Congress on October 28–30, 2025.
