In 2024, the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF) brought together more than 34 thousand participants from 54 countries, the business program included 110 events in 19 thematic areas, including gasification of regions, cooperation between BRICS and SCO countries, hydrogen energy, LNG, R&D in the gas industry, import substitution, digital transformation, development of human resources, sustainable development. Within the framework of thematic sessions, conferences and round tables, about 800 presentations by industry professionals took place: representatives of federal and regional authorities, specialized associations and unions, managers, chief engineers and technologists of companies, scientists, as well as young specialists and students of specialized universities. Exhibitions organized within the framework of SPIGF occupied the entire space of Expoforum: on an area of 50,000 sq. m, more than 600 companies demonstrated their scientific and technical developments and innovative solutions for the gas industry.
Over the years of its development, SPIGF has reached unprecedented scale; one venue, even such a spacious, modern and high-tech one as Expoforum, is no longer enough to hold it. Therefore, part of the business events of the Gas Forum this year were held in the congress halls of the Hilton St. Petersburg Expoforum hotel. The plenary session of the International Exhibition and Conference on Shipbuilding and Development of High-Tech Equipment for the Development of the Arctic and Continental Shelf OMR 2024, which was organized as part of the SPIGF-2024, was held in the Mariinsky Palace. The huge Gazprom Arena became the venue for a gala reception dedicated to the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum and the 10th anniversary of the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Center.
Representatives from Europe, the CIS, the Asia-Pacific region, Africa and the Arab world took part in the work of the SPIGF. This year, the events of the Gas Forum were covered by more than 400 journalists from 200 Russian and foreign mass media.
"There has never been such a forum. We have reached the highest, most advanced level. The creation of exhibits, technologies, equipment that are presented at the forum is a joint effort of Gazprom, research institutes, universities, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the work of the ecosystem - well-coordinated, well-coordinated and, most importantly, aimed at specific goals, at specific results. We are confident in the future. What we see at the forum is a world-class result," said Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of PJSC Gazprom.
The key event of the Forum was the Plenary Session, dedicated to the discussion of the process of formation of a new world order in global energy. The session was attended by Alexey Miller, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilev, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar, Vice President of the China National Petroleum Corporation Huang Yongzhang, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Karankevich.
One of the main topics of SPIGF-2024 was the development of international cooperation. All participants of the business program touched upon its prospects in one way or another. Another important topic raised at SPIGF-2024 was the development of the gas and petrochemical industry, whose enterprises produce raw materials for the production of a wide range of products: consumer goods, medical products and even food products. The most famous example of such raw materials is various plastics, the consumption of which is growing every year. According to SPIGF experts, by 2050, despite the global desire to develop a circular economy and deplasticization policy, the demand for raw materials for the production of plastics will more than double. Russia has every opportunity to take a leading position in the global market of gas and petrochemical products, concluded the participants of the panel discussion "Gas and petrochemicals: new horizons for the development of innovative products and materials, a new technological paradigm." "The development of gas and petrochemicals is of strategic importance for the state. It increases the demand for complex technologies and supports innovative processes," said Dmitry Zavalov, Deputy Director General of the Russian Energy Agency. The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade is already implementing programs aimed at this. Since the introduction of the first sanctions in 2014, more than 70 billion rubles have been allocated to support the oil and gas industry. "We have united all industry players at the Coordination Council for Import Substitution of Oil and Gas Equipment under the leadership of two Deputy Prime Ministers - Denis Manturov and Alexander Novak. Our goal is to achieve full sovereignty of the Russian oil and gas industry by 2030," concluded Khadzhimurat Saadulaev, Head of the Department for Development of Equipment for Oil and Gas Processing and Water and Gas Purification of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Other topics discussed this year at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum included sustainable development of the industry and environmental issues, digital transformation and implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, design and construction, innovation, underground gas storage, legal risks and new approaches to marketing, and PR in the gas sector.
During SPIGF-2024, a number of ceremonial events took place with the participation of Alexey Miller. In particular, new gas supply and gasification facilities for consumers in all federal districts of the Russian Federation were launched. Thanks to this infrastructure, 1.9 thousand households will be able to connect to network gas. The Metrology Center of PJSC Gazprom with the State Primary Standard of Gas Flow has started operating. The Center is the first site in the country for testing, checking and calibrating high-precision instruments for measuring gas volume during its transportation. In addition, a new condensate deethanization unit of the Urengoy Condensate Preparation Plant for Transportation was launched. The unit is an important facility in Gazprom's technological complex for processing reserves in the Nadym-Pur-Taz region.
The Youth Day was also traditionally organized within the framework of the SPIGF. This year, 30 students from 12 countries were selected from 300 candidates and had an opportunity to meet in St. Petersburg at the Expoforum site to discuss current issues of energy industry development together with leading experts.
Real achievements of the domestic industry and science could be seen at the exposition of SPIGF-2024 - within the framework of the Forum, specialized exhibitions "InGAS Stream 2024 - Innovations in the Gas Industry", Corporate exhibition exposition of PJSC Gazprom "Import Substitution in the Gas Industry", International specialized exhibition of the gas industry and technical means for gas facilities "ROS-GAS-EXPO" and International exhibition and conference on shipbuilding and development of high-tech equipment for the development of the Arctic and continental shelf OMR 2024 were held. An exposition with collective stands of Russian regions was also organized at the event site - Perm Krai, the Republic of Tatarstan, Moscow, Astrakhan, Chelyabinsk, Penza and Omsk regions. The exposition of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum was inspected by the official delegation headed by the Chairman of the Management Board of PJSC Gazprom Alexey Miller. The guests met Oleg Dobrobot - a robot-walker created by Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk LLC and the Cognitive Pilot company, assessed the IT-polygon project of gas transportation companies from the IT-company Gazprom TsPS, inspected the new full-slewing pipe-laying crane KTT-50 manufactured by JSC Klintsovsky Avtokranovy Zavod. At the Kazakhstan stand, decorated with hand-woven carpets and paintings, guests were treated to folk instruments and shown authentic jewelry.
At the XII International Exhibition "InGAS Stream 2024 - Innovations in the Gas Industry" advanced technologies for the oil and gas industry were presented. At the stand of Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo LLC, guests of the Forum were shown LADA Vesta and BAIC U5 Plus cars on natural gas, adapted for people with disabilities. The Peterpipe Company presented a wide range of polyethylene fittings, and the Electroshield Group of Companies -- TM Samara, - distribution devices that meet international standards. GRO PetersburgGaz demonstrated the Iskatel auto laboratory for detecting gas leaks, and Mosoblgaz JSC, an affordable high-quality gas equipment. The Goreltech plant exhibited explosion-proof equipment, and the Turbulentnost-Don Group of Companies exhibited ultrasonic gas flow meters of various modifications. The TechnoProm Company presented the BKM-5 corrosion monitoring unit, and Banter Group presented a model of a spherical tank, which is now manufactured in Russia. These innovations underscore the desire of Russian manufacturers for technological independence and the development of domestic industry.
The Corporate Exhibition Exposition of PJSC Gazprom "Import Substitution in the Gas Industry" was organized on the sidelines of SPIGF-2024. Exhibitors - industry leaders, equipment manufacturers, technology developers and scientific organizations - presented advanced solutions for the needs of the gas industry.
The outdoor exposition of SPIGF-2024 featured mobile gas filling stations, eco-friendly Moskvichs, dump trucks and tractors using natural gas as fuel. Among the exhibits on display were a 90-ton BelAZ LNG-powered quarry dump truck with a module for unloading cryogenic tanks, a 100-ton Galichanin mobile crane based on the Volat chassis from the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, as well as two joint projects by RariTEK: MTZ Belarus tractors running on CNG and the world's first Polesie grain harvester running on LNG.
SPIGF-2024 provided participants with several platforms for negotiations. The Business Contact Center, which facilitates the establishment of new connections between suppliers and customers, was traditionally open - this year, more than 1,800 meetings were held within the framework of the Business Contact Center. For the first time, the SPIGF held a presentation day "New Technologies for the Gas Industry", in which more than 50 oil and gas and industrial companies took part. During the four days of the Forum, the Business Lounge was also open – a communication space for business meetings in an informal setting. This year, an excursion to the Vsevolozhsk Gas Turbine Power Plant was organized for the SPIGF participants, where specialists saw gas turbine units in operation and learned about new technologies for generating heat and electricity, and got acquainted with the key stages of the electricity production cycle.
The busy schedule of SPIGF-2024 events included not only business meetings and serious discussions, but also cultural and sporting events. Thus, the Winline Billiard Club, organized at the Forum venue, hosted the billiards tournament "WINLINE Cup of the President of the Russian Gas Society". Chess fans could try their hand at intellectual battles with grandmasters at the tournament "Simultaneous Game Session". At the stand of the Zenit Football Club, one could see the club's trophies and take part in an autograph session with forward Luciano. The official golf tournament "Gas Forum Golf Tournament-24" was held at the MillCreek Golf Club.
An open media studio "Gas for Russia" was organized at the Gazprom Mezhregiongaz stand. Guests of the studio discussed issues of gasification and additional gasification of Russian regions, socio-cultural, sports, and historical projects.
The online studio "Russia - Good News Event" was also operating at the Forum venue, created in collaboration between the Petersburg Diary publication and ExpoForum International. During the live broadcasts, hosts and journalists interviewed key participants and media personalities of the Forum.
A special mobile application was created for the participants of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, which allowed them to solve all the needs of users: from managing their personal schedule and scheduling meetings to booking restaurants. The SPIGF mobile application is the result of joint work between EF-International LLC and Operator Gazprom ID LLC: the companies signed a memorandum of intent on developing digital solutions this year at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The Imperial Porcelain Factory, which is celebrating 280 years since its foundation this year, presented outstanding works of porcelain art from the imperial period to the participants and guests of the SPIGF-2024. Using beautiful dinnerware sets, vases and sculptures, guests saw how porcelain reflected not only the personal tastes of Russian emperors, but also the most important milestones in the history of our country.
"Everything Gazprom does, it does with a quality mark. The Gas Forum is now one of the three largest gas events in the world. In the future, it should become the number one global project. The record results of this year leave no doubt about it," emphasized the CEO of ExpoForum International, President of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs Sergey Voronkov, and invited the participants to gather at the next Forum in 2025.
