Технологией строительства односводчатых станций Петербургского мет­рополитена предусматривается разрабатывать ядро станции, которое содержит основную часть породы, вынимаемую при строительстве станции, после соору­жения верхнего свода. До последнего времени эта работа выполнялась в ос­новном с помощью отбойных молотков.
