В центральной части Тихвинского горнопромышленного района под толщей моренных отложений залегают отложения нижнего карбона, представленные главным образом песчано-глинистыми породами. При горных работах эти породы обнажаются в бортах карьеров. Состав и свойства пород района изучались в связи с расчетом углов заложения бортов проектируемых карьеров, разработкой мероприятий по борьбе с оползневыми явлениями в откосах горных выработок, расчетом дренажа карьерных полей, оценкой устойчивости рабочих площадок под шагающие экскаваторы и решением других вопросов, связанных с веде­нием горных работ ...

In the central part of the Tikhvin mining district under the thickness of moraine deposits underlies the Lower Carboniferous sediments, represented mainly by sandy-clayey rocks. During mining operations, these rocks are exposed in the sides of the quarries.
