Одной из важнейших задач обогатителей и металлургов является изыскание более совершенных методов комплексного использования полиметаллических руд: свинцово-медно-цинковых и медно-цинковых, содержащих, кроме основных металлов Си, РЬ, Zn, ряд других металлов-спутников — Au, Ag, V, Cd, Se, Те, Sn, Tl, Ge, In, Ni, Co, As, Sb, Hg и др. Стоимость заключенных в рудах основных металлов, включая благородные, составляет часто не более 50—70% от стоимости всех металлов в рудах. Обычные методы обогащения большинства полиметаллических руд не обеспечивают получения богатых и чистых селективных концентратов при достаточно высоком извлечении соответствующих одноименных металлов. Извлечение свинца в свинцовый концентрат составляет 75—88%, цинка в цинковый концентрат 78—85 %, меди в медный концентрат 68—78%.
