Неуклонное возрастание добычи угля и переход к разработке новых месторождений со все более сложными условиями залегания делает проблемы контроля за проявлениями горного давления и прогноза поведения кровли в очистных выработках шахт первостепенной задачей, которая пока не нашла своего разрешения. Это обусловлено рядом причин, в частности, недостаточной изученностью процессов горного давления, отсутствием методики систематического прогноза на базе контрольных замеров состояния массива.

This is due to a number of reasons, in particular, insufficient knowledge of rock pressure processes, and the lack of a methodology for systematic prediction based on monitoring measurements of the state of the rock mass.
