При извлечении селена из медеэлектролитных шламов обычно получаются содощелочные селенсодержащие растворы. Помимо основного компонента — селена — в них присутствуют примеси: теллур, различные тяжелые металлы, серебро, железо, мышьяк, ртуть и др. Основной примесью является теллур, который выделяют из раствора в виде гидратированной двуокиси нейтрализацией до pH = 5-6. Вместе с тем, весьма важным является удаление и других примесей, попадание которых в селен снижает его качество.
